Challenges faced and countermeasures implemented by county-level hospitals in China.

China's rapid economic growth and urbanisation have led to a sustained decline in the population of its rural and county areas, posing a significant challenge to its healthcare system. This has especially impacted county-level hospitals in the country's western regions, which have been facing issues such as declines in quality of medical care and shortages of medical professionals and medical equipment. Areas such as cardiovascular diseases, chronic diseases, mental health, oncology, and paediatrics are especially underserved in these areas. To address these challenges, it is essential for Chi

Barriers to social participation among patients with hemophilia: a qualitative study using social-ecological systems theory.

BACKGROUND: Social participation greatly determines health-related quality of life, while people with hemophilia face severe social engagement restrictions. Current studies only explore such barriers from single dimensions including joint function, employment and mental distress, lacking a comprehensive social-ecological perspective. Based on social-ecological systems theory, this study systematically analyzes multi-level barriers to social participation among Chinese hemophilia patients to support integrated nursing intervention development. METHODS: A descriptive phenomenological qualitativ

Comparison of the Aotearoa New Zealand Early Warning Score and National Early Warning Score to predict adverse inpatient events in a vital sign dataset.

Aotearoa New Zealand uses a single early warning score (EWS) across all public and private hospitals to detect adult inpatient physiological deterioration. This combines the aggregate weighted scoring of the UK National Early Warning Score with single parameter activation from Australian medical emergency team systems. We conducted a retrospective analysis of a large vital sign dataset to validate the predictive performance of the New Zealand EWS in discriminating between patients at risk of serious adverse events and compared this with the UK EWS. We also compared predictive performance for p

Medical debt during epidemics: A case for resolving the situation in low- and middle-income countries such as Kenya.

This paper evaluates the problem of medical debt in Kenya during the COVID-19 pandemic. The medical debt problem is compounded during pandemics such as COVID-19 when patients seek treatment and end up in insurmountable debt because illnesses related to the pandemic are not covered by the Kenyan National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), the public health coverage body under government control. As a result, discharged patients may be detained in hospitals and dead bodies are locked away in mortuaries, until relatives and friends fundraise and clear the bills. Apart from causing vulnerability, fear,
