Two cases of transient LV dysfunction associated with VT are described. Both patients had a history of palpitations of several years' duration without symptoms of congestive heart failure. The reason for presentation was an increase in frequency and duration of palpitation. Decreased LV wall motion, observed by 2DE, normalized shortly after treatment of the VT. Diffusely decreased LV wall motion is associated with frequent episodes of VT and may mimic DCM except that signs and symptoms of heart failure are absent.

Acute rejection often leads to severe myocardial failure and death. Surprisingly, no systematic study on the efficacy of beta-adrenergic pharmacologic agents have been reported to the present. Cross-perfused canine atrial preparations were used to investigate the direct and indirect cardiac actions of clonidine and alinidine. Intravenous injections of clonidine (0.1-3 micrograms/kg) produced an initial brief pressor response and bradycardia followed by hypotension in the intact dog. We have used the myothermal method to noninvasively monitor the amount of calcium cycled during a single isometric twitch of rabbit papillary muscle. Long-acting nifedipine and nitrendipine, a nifedipine analogue, have been proposed for single-drug therapy of hypertension. Changes in the contracture and stiffness of ventricular walls during ischemia and their effect on vascular reperfusion were studied in isolated rat hearts. 1. Dogs were anaesthetized with chloralose and artificially ventilated. The regions of both carotid bifurcations were vascularly isolated and perfused at constant pressure with arterial blood or with venous or hypoxic blood. 2.
