Nail psoriasis is a condition that can affect children and adolescents. It often is refractory to treatment. Data on its management in the pediatric population are limited. This article aims to summarize existing information-small case series and case reports-on the successful therapeutic approaches for nail psoriasis in children. As more agents are approved for on-label use in plaque psoriasis in pediatric patients, gradually more real-life data on their efficacy for nail psoriasis in children are expected to come to light.

Isothiazolinones, preservatives including methylisothiazolinone (MI), methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone (MCI/MI), benzisothiazolinone (BIT), and octylisothiazolinone (OIT), are notorious contact allergens. Pediatric dermatologists are familiar with these preservatives in personal care products, homemade slime recipes, and wet wipes. We present a novel source of MI declared in nail polish marketed to children.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Nail disorders represent an uncommon subset of complaints seen in pediatric dermatology. There is a wide array of disorders that can affect the nail unit in children, including infectious, inflammatory, neoplastic, congenital, and traumatic processes. In order to enhance familiarity with pediatric nail conditions, we review the background and treatment of the more common entities seen in pediatric onychology, including onychomycosis, onychomadesis, nail psoriasis, trachyonychia, longitudinal melanonychia, onychophagia, and onychocryptosis.

Various advancements in the diagnosis and management of nail diseases have transpired in recent years. To provide the best care for patients with nail complaints, it is essential that physicians be updated on new diagnostic and treatment modalities. The purpose of this article is to discuss new and oncoming diagnostic and management options for nail disorders, including nail psoriasis, retronychia, brittle nails, onychotillomania, trauma, trachyonychia, and pyogenic granulomas.

Pigmented lesions of the nail unit are commonly encountered in the clinical setting. Yet, they often present a unique challenge to clinicians because of a broad differential diagnosis or unfamiliarity with clinical and histopathologic features. BACKGROUND: An early and prompt nail apparatus melanoma (NAM) diagnosis is associated with less invasive surgical procedures and a better patient's prognosis. The diagnostic delay may be related both to the clinical misinterpretations and to errors in the diagnosing process. Nail dermoscopy was initially used only in the assessment of nail pigmentation, but now it is widely utilized for the evaluation of many nail disorders. BACKGROUND: The nail bed may epithelialize and develop dermatoglyphics after long-standing onycholysis. We have called this phenomenon the disappearing nail bed (DNB). DNB may present as a shortened or narrow nail bed.
METHODS: Examination of all 20 nails was performed in each patient enrolled to the study. DNB was defined as the presence of a nail which is at least 20% shorter and/or narrower than the identical nail on the opposite hand or foot. Age, sex, and nail history were recorded. Fungal studies were done on all patients with DNB if that nail exhibited clinical signs of onychomycosis.

Apart from involving skin, psoriasis can compromise the nails and adjacent structures. Even though there are multiple therapeutic alternatives, there is great interest in biological therapy, but no consensus on its role exists. Searching in Epistemonikos database, which is maintained by screening 30 databases, we identified two systematic reviews including three randomized trials.
