Construction of Diagnosis Model of Moyamoya Disease Based on Convolution Neural Network Algorithm.

OBJECTIVE: The convolutional neural network (CNN) was used to improve the accuracy of digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in diagnosing moyamoya disease (MMD), providing a new method for clinical diagnosis of MMD. METHODS: A total of 40 diagnosed with MMD by DSA in the neurosurgery department of our hospital were included. At the same time, 40 age-matched and sex-matched patients were selected as the control group. The 80 included patients were divided into training set (n = 56) and validation set (n = 24). The DSA image was preprocessed, and the CNN was used to extract features from the pr

A Novel Feature Selection with Hybrid Deep Learning Based Heart Disease Detection and Classification in the e-Healthcare Environment.

With the advancements in data mining, wearables, and cloud computing, online disease diagnosis services have been widely employed in the e-healthcare environment and improved the quality of the services. The e-healthcare services help to reduce the death rate by the earlier identification of the diseases. Simultaneously, heart disease (HD) is a deadly disorder, and patient survival depends on early diagnosis of HD. Early HD diagnosis and categorization play a key role in the analysis of clinical data. In the context of e-healthcare, we provide a novel feature selection with hybrid deep learnin

Attention-Based Neural Architecture Search for Person Re-Identification.

Recent years have witnessed significant progress of person reidentification (reID) driven by expert-designed deep neural network architectures. Despite the remarkable success, such architectures often suffer from high model complexity and time-consuming pretraining process, as well as the mismatches between the image classification-driven backbones and the reID task. To address these issues, we introduce neural architecture search (NAS) into automatically designing person reID backbones, i.e., reID-NAS, which is achieved via automatically searching attention-based network architectures from sc

Tri-view two-photon microscopic image registration and deblurring with convolutional neural networks.

Two-photon fluorescence microscopy has enabled the three-dimensional (3D) neural imaging of deep cortical regions. While it can capture the detailed neural structures in the x-y image space, the image quality along the depth direction is lower because of lens blur, which often makes it difficult to identify the neural connectivity. To address this problem, we propose a novel approach for restoring the isotropic image volume by estimating and fusing the intersection regions of the images captured from three orthogonal viewpoints using convolutional neural networks (CNNs). Because convolution on

Learning from Deep Stereoscopic Attention for Simulator Sickness Prediction.

Simulator sickness induced by 360° stereoscopic video contents is a prolonged challenging issue in Virtual Reality (VR) system. Current machine learning models for simulator sickness prediction ignore the underlying interdependencies and correlations across multiple visual features which may lead to simulator sickness. We propose a model for sickness prediction by automatic learning and adaptive integrating multi-level mappings from stereoscopic video features to simulator sickness scores. Firstly, saliency, optical flow and disparity features are extracted from videos to reflect the factors c

CheXGAT: A disease correlation-aware network for thorax disease diagnosis from chest X-ray images.

Chest X-ray (CXR) imaging is one of the most common diagnostic imaging techniques in clinical diagnosis and is usually used for radiological examinations to screen for thorax diseases. In this paper, we propose a novel computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system based on a hybrid deep learning model composed of a convolutional neural network (CNN) and a graph neural network (GNN). The system is intended to explore implicit correlations between thorax diseases to aid in the multilabel chest X-ray image classification task, which we term ‶CheXGAT‶. Specifically, the proposed CheXGAT framework comprise

Simultaneous brain structure segmentation in magnetic resonance images using deep convolutional neural networks.

In brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations, rapidly acquired two-dimensional (2D) T1-weighted sagittal slices are typically used to confirm brainstem atrophy and the presence of signals in the posterior pituitary gland. Image segmentation is essential for the automatic evaluation of chronological changes in the brainstem and pituitary gland. Thus, the purpose of our study was to use deep learning to automatically segment internal organs (brainstem, corpus callosum, pituitary, cerebrum, and cerebellum) in midsagittal slices of 2D T1-weighted images. Deep learning for the automatic s

A deep neural network approach for P300 detection-based BCI using single-channel EEG scalogram images.

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) acquire electroencephalogram (EEG) signals and interpret them into a command that helps people with severe motor disabilities using single channel. The goal of BCI is to achieve a prototype that supports disabled people to develop the relevant function. Various studies have been implemented in the literature to achieve a superior design using multi-channel EEG signals. This paper proposed a novel framework for the automatic P300 detection-based BCI model using a single EEG electrode. In the present study, we introduced a denoising approach using the bandpass fi

Centroid-based Distance Loss Function for Lamina Segmentation in 3D Ultrasound Spine Volumes.

Ultrasound imaging of the spine to diagnose the severity of scoliosis is a recent development in the field, offering 3D information that does not require a complicated procedure of reconstruction, unlike with radiography. Determining the severity of scoliosis on ultrasound volumes requires labelling vertebral features called laminae. To increase accuracy and reduce time spent on this task, this paper reported a novel custom centroid-based distance loss function for lamina segmentation in 3D ultrasound volumes, using convolutional neural networks (CNN). A comparison between the custom and two s

Patch Based Texture Classification of Thyroid Ultrasound Images using Convolutional Neural Network.

Ultrasound (US) is an affordable and important imaging modality in medical imaging without potential hazards for patients and medical practitioners as compared to computed tomography which uses X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging which uses magnetic field and radio waves that could heat up the patient's body during long examinations, nuclear imaging, etc. Texture classification of anatomical structures in US images is an essential step for disease diagnosis and monitoring. In this work, we employed a convolutional neural network to segment thyroid gland in US images. This is particularly import

A Wavelet Transform-Based Neural Network Denoising Algorithm for Mobile Phonocardiography.

Cardiovascular pathologies cause 23.5% of human deaths, worldwide. An auto-diagnostic system monitoring heart activity, which can identify the early symptoms of cardiac illnesses, might reduce the death rate caused by these problems. Phonocardiography (PCG) is one of the possible techniques able to detect heart problems. Nevertheless, acoustic signal enhancement is required since it is exposed to various disturbances coming from different sources. The most common denoising enhancement is based on the Wavelet Transform (WT). However, the WT is highly susceptible to variations in the noise frequ

Decoding Speech from Single Trial MEG Signals Using Convolutional Neural Networks and Transfer Learning.

Decoding speech directly from the brain has the potential for the development of the next generation, more efficient brain computer interfaces (BCIs) to assist in the communication of patients with locked-in syndrome (fully paralyzed but aware). In this study, we have explored the spectral and temporal features of the magnetoencephalography (MEG) signals and trained those features with convolutional neural networks (CNN) for the classification of neural signals corresponding to phrases. Experimental results demonstrated the effectiveness of CNNs in decoding speech during perception, imaginatio

A modular neural network scheme applied to fault diagnosis in electric power systems.

This work proposes a new method for fault diagnosis in electric power systems based on neural modules. With this method the diagnosis is performed by assigning a neural module for each type of component comprising the electric power system, whether it is a transmission line, bus or transformer. The neural modules for buses and transformers comprise two diagnostic levels which take into consideration the logic states of switches and relays, both internal and back-up, with the exception of the neural module for transmission lines which also has a third diagnostic level which takes into account t

Computing machinery and mentality.

I reconsider the status of computationalism (or, in a weak sense, functionalism): the claim that being a realization of some (as yet unspecified) class of abstract machine is both necessary and sufficient for having genuine, full-blooded, mentality. This doctrine is now quite widely (though by no means universally) seen as discredited. My position is that, though it is undoubtedly an unsatisfactory (perhaps even repugnant) thesis, the arguments against it are still rather weak. In particular, I critically reassess John Searle's infamous Chinese Room Argument and also some relevant aspects of K

Hybrid Residual Neural Network for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Detection Using ECG Scalogram.

The electrocardiogram (ECG) has emerged as a viable alternative to polysomnography (PSG) for the detection of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Given the limited feature information of ECG signals in a single domain, this study proposes an adaptive threshold denoising synchrosqueezed wavelet transform (ADSWT) algorithm to extract high-resolution time-frequency domain features of ECG signals. The ADSWT algorithm enhances the time-frequency resolution, enabling better extraction of key features while minimizing noise interference, and generates an ECG scalogram as input for the network. High-throughput image-based pupal sex classification in Aedes aegypti using convolutional neural network models for sterile insect technique applications.

Aedes aegypti, the primary vector of dengue, yellow fever, Zika, and chikungunya, poses serious public health threats, especially in tropical regions. With limited vaccine availability, innovative control strategies like the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) are essential, requiring efficient pupal sex separation to release only non-biting sterile males. This study developed a high-throughput, low-cost imaging pipeline using 96-well plates with optimized conditions (fixed camera stand, backlighting, refrigeration for immobilization, and black-painted wells) to capture mosquito pupal images using

Relation equivariant graph neural networks to explore the mosaic-like tissue architecture of kidney diseases on spatially resolved transcriptomics.

MOTIVATION: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and acute kidney injury (AKI) are prominent public health concerns affecting more than 15% of the global population. The ongoing development of spatially resolved transcriptomics (SRT) technologies presents a promising approach for discovering the spatial distribution patterns of gene expression within diseased tissues. However, existing computational tools are predominantly calibrated and designed on the ribbon-like structure of the brain cortex, presenting considerable computational obstacles in discerning highly heterogeneous mosaic-like tissue archi

A stacking based deep learning framework integrating random search neural architecture search for meniscus tear diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: Accurate and rapid diagnosis of meniscal tears is crucial for effective management of sports-related injuries and degenerative knee disorders. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is widely used for meniscus evaluation; however, manual interpretation is time-consuming and subject to inter-observer variability. Automated and reliable classification systems may therefore support clinical decision-making. PURPOSE: This study aims to develop a robust and interpretable deep learning framework for the automatic four-class classification of meniscal conditions using MRI images. METHODS: A t

[Dual neural circuit model of reading and writing].

In the hypothetical neural circuit model of reading and writing that was initially proposed by Dejerine and subsequently confirmed by Geschwind, the left angular gyrus was considered as a unique center for processing letters. Japanese investigators, however, have repeatedly pointed out that this angular gyrus model cannot fully explain the disturbances observed in reading and writing Kanji letters in Japanese patients with various types of alexia with or without agraphia. In 1982, I proposed a dual neural circuit model of reading and writing Japanese on the basis of neuropsychological studies

Neural network models of schizophrenia.

There is considerable neurobiological evidence suggesting that schizophrenia is associated with reduced corticocortical connectivity. The authors describe two neural network computer simulations that explore functional consequences of these abnormalities. The first utilized an "attractor" neural network capable of content-addressable memory. Application of a pruning rule that eliminated weaker connections over longer distances produced functional fragmentation and the emergence of localized, "parasitic" attractors that intruded into network dynamics. These pathologies generally were expressed
