[Representation of infectious risk in patients with multiple myeloma: A multicentric prospective study aimed at adapting the role of advanced practice nurses].

Multiple myeloma is a haematologic malignancy of the bone marrow with an increasing incidence, primarily affecting an elderly and frail population. It benefits from innovative treatments that have been shown to extend patient survival. However, 2% of patients die from infections during the first year of treatment, despite the availability of prophylactic treatments. Thanks to their new skills, advanced practice nurses could play a new role in this care. We conducted a prospective quantitative multicenter study in three French hospitals. Over a two-month period, questionnaires were administered

Improving drug charting practices and documentation among nurses in emergency department at a regional hospital, Bhutan: a quality improvement initiative.

INTRODUCTION: Medication error is one of the most common safety issues and the highest prevalence rate of preventable medication-related harm is seen in low-income and middle-income countries especially in Africa and South Asian countries. Studies done elsewhere show that medication errors related to transcription and drug chart documentation can be as high as 70%. A baseline survey done in our department showed that our drug charting practices and documentation are only complete in 45% which could significantly contribute to medication errors and patient safety. METHODS: To address this gap,

Organizational transformation elements for evidence-based practice by hospital nursing staff: a qualitative study using 7-S framework.

BACKGROUND: Existing models that promote the implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) give a fragmented picture of the process and factors. This means that a comprehensive view of the elements necessary for an organization to implement sustained EBP is lacking. Clarifying organizational transformation elements using the 7-S framework (Styles, Superordinate goals, Skills, Staff, Strategy, Systems, Structure) allows the organizational conditions to be comprehensively assessed, guiding transformation efforts toward sustaining EBPs. In addition, while ward-level group learning supports EBP

Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) of ICU Nurses towards Tracheal Intubation Patients' Postextubation Dysphagia: A Cross-Sectional Study.

AIM: The aim of this study was to understand the current status of knowledge-attitude-practice of ICU nurses in tertiary care hospitals regarding swallowing disorders after extubation of tracheally intubated patients and to analyse the influencing factors. DESIGN: A cross-sectional study. BACKGROUND: Most patients admitted to the ICU have an endotracheal tube, which may be the cause of acute and/or chronic problems after extubation. Therefore, training of ICU nurses and early extubation are essential to prevent these problems. METHODS: A convenience sample of clinical nurses (n = 627) was s

Perceived Barriers to Administration of Aromatherapy in Nurses Caring for Pediatric Patients With Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting: An Evidence-based Practice Project.

INTRODUCTION: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is prevalent among surgical patients, causing hospitalizations, extended stays, and patient dissatisfaction. Children are twice as likely to experience PONV than adult patients. Complementary therapy holds promise for PONV treatment but meets clinical use barriers. We explored perioperative nurses' perceived barriers to the use of complementary aromatherapy. METHOD: Presurvey and postsurveys assessed nurses' (n = 27) knowledge and barriers to aromatherapy use before and after an educational in-service. RESULTS: Primary PONV treatment inv

Knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to human papillomavirus vaccination among college students in a state university: Implications for nurse practitioners.

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States and disproportionately affects adolescents and young adults. Although a safe and efficacious vaccine is available, many college students are unimmunized against HPV. Most students presenting to college health centers are within the age range for catch-up immunization, giving nurse practitioners (NPs) in this setting an opportunity to increase vaccination rates. More information is needed about college students' HPV knowledge, attitudes, and vaccination uptake so that NPs can make effec

Measuring the effectiveness of catch-up MMR delivered by school nurses compared to signposting to general practice on improving MMR coverage.

BACKGROUND: This study assesses whether increased coverage of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccination differs between areas where school nurses deliver catch-up MMR doses to adolescents in school settings, compared to signposting to general practice. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted using Child Health Information Services records within the NHS England South (South Central) commissioning boundary. The sample population included children born 1 September 2000-31 August 2001, in school year 9 during the 2014-15 academic year. RESULTS: The primary outcome findings sh

End of life care practice and symptom management outcomes of nursing home residents with dementia: secondary analyses of IQUARE trial.

PURPOSE: End-of-life care is a central issue in nursing homes. Poor care outcomes have been reported, especially among residents with dementia. Our aim was two-fold: to assess whether the diagnosis of dementia was associated with specific patterns of care and symptom management for residents with dementia during the last 6 months of life, and to compare these patterns of care between residents with dementia who died within 6 months and those who survived longer. METHODS: Secondary prospective analyses of the IQUARE trial (trial registration number NCT01703689). 175 nursing homes in South West

Perceptions of nurse preceptors of students and new graduates with learning difficulties and their willingness to precept them in clinical practice (Part 2).

The aim of this study was to describe the perceptions of nurse preceptors of nursing students and new graduate nurses with learning disabilities in clinical settings. Learning disabilities pose potential challenges in nursing education, especially in clinical settings when working with preceptors. Preceptors (N = 166) who attended a state-wide preceptor workshop responded to an electronic survey that assessed their perceptions. Four concepts were explored: preceptor perceived level of preparedness; preceptor perceived confidence in implementation of their role; preceptor beliefs regarding the

What are the beliefs and perceptions of practice nurses' influence about the uptake of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine?: An integrative literature review.

AIM: The aim of this study was to ascertain the beliefs and perceptions of practice nurses' influence about the uptake of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine. BACKGROUND: Immunization decision-making for parents is a complex process. Principle health professionals involved in immunization programmes are health visitors, general practitioners, and practice nurses. There is evidence that health visitors and general practitioners influence parental immunization decision-making. However, there is a lack of evidence about the influence of the practice nurse despite their well-documented role i
