BACKGROUND: In Chinese culture, discussions about death are often considered taboo, which may intensify death anxiety among nursing interns when facing end-of-life situations. Death anxiety may influence their ability to provide spiritual care, yet the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. AIM: This study aimed to examine the relationship between meaning in life, death anxiety, and spiritual care competence among nursing interns, and to explore the mediating role of death anxiety. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 737 final-year vocational

AIMS: This study examined the experiences of nurses diagnosed with COVID-19 under the guidance of Meleis' Transitions Theory.
BACKGROUND: Nurses, who make up the majority of healthcare professionals, are struggling with COVID-19, a silent war, on the front lines at the cost of their lives. The pandemic has deeply affected nurses' lives, and hundreds of nurses around the world have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and died.
METHODS: A descriptive qualitative approach was used in this study. Data were collected from 18 nurses who experienced COVID-19 symptoms, with a semistructured interview form

Nurses assist patients with activities of daily living, including the provision of excretion care. Although excretion may be accomplished by some patients independently, others exhibit disorders in this process. Despite the high prevalence of faecal incontinence, the proper nursing care protocol in this context remains unclear. Therefore, this narrative review was conducted to investigate what types of nursing care are needed to prevent or improve faecal incontinence through a review of existing knowledge, challenges and future prospects. BACKGROUND: Research regarding factors associated with nursing-initiated changes to bladder management at end-of-life is sparse.
OBJECTIVES: To explore the process of Palliative Care Unit (PCU) nurses' approach to bladder management changes.
METHODS: Nursing staff from one PCU in London, Canada were interviewed regarding bladder management care practices. A constructivist grounded theory was generated.
RESULTS: Four interconnected themes emerged: humanity (compassionate support of patients); journey (making the most of a finite timeline); health condition (illness, functional decline); and

Transitioning to the nursing home setting is a complex process for family caregivers of older adults with dementia. While nursing home placement (NHP) can alleviate certain caregiving responsibilities, new stressors can also emerge. In the present study, the researchers examined how care-related factors can change leading up to NHP and how these factors influence caregiver outcomes following NHP. A sample of 634 family dementia caregivers (n = 634) were surveyed at three six-month intervals prior to NHP and once during the 12 month period following institutionalization. Growth curve modeling r

AIM: Analyse the concept of expertise among practicing clinical nurses in hospital settings.
BACKGROUND: The generational loss of expert clinical nurses was exacerbated globally by the novel coronavirus. This ongoing loss combined with the increased complexity of hospitalised patients has prompted an urgent need to understand expertise among clinical nurses who practice in hospital settings.
METHODS: Walker and Avant's concept analysis method was used. PubMed, Medline, CINAHL and Access Medicine were searched (1982-2025) for research studies and literature reviews published in English that a

BACKGROUND: Population aging, labour shortages and economic conditions are increasing concerns worldwide regarding retirement decisions of nurses. Although previous studies have examined factors influencing nurses' retirement, limited research has explored how late-career female nurses perceive and experience the transition to retirement, particularly from a qualitative perspective, and how these perceptions reflect the current situation in healthcare settings. Hence, this study aims to fill this gap by exploring the perceptions of late-career female nurses about retirement and the interplay o

This study aimed to analyze the effect of a modified emergency nursing pathway based on the shared decision-making model during alteplase thrombolysis for acute ischemic stroke and provide a reference for establishing a nursing system in the emergency department. Eighty patients with acute ischemic stroke treated with alteplase thrombolysis in our hospital from October 2023 to August 2024 were selected as the study subjects. They were divided into a control group (receiving conventional emergency care) and an observation group (receiving the modified emergency nursing pathway based on the shar

BACKGROUND: Delirium is a multifactorial and potentially life-threatening syndrome that remains underdiagnosed and undertreated in nursing homes, despite residents' high vulnerability due to advanced age, multimorbidity and cognitive impairment. To date, little is known how healthcare professionals perceive and manage delirium in these settings, particularly regarding prevention, diagnosis, therapy and interdisciplinary collaboration, as well as differentiation from other neurodegenerative diseases. This study explores the perspectives of nurses and general practitioners (GPs) on the quality o

BACKGROUND: Evidence to guide clinical decision making for pain management in nursing home residents is scant.
OBJECTIVE: Our objective was to explore the extent of consensus among expert stakeholders regarding what analgesic issues should be prioritized for comparative-effectiveness studies of beneficial and adverse effects of analgesic regimens in nursing home residents.
METHODS: Two stakeholder panels (nurses only and a mix of clinicians/researchers) were engaged (n = 83). During a three-round online modified Delphi process, participants rated and commented on the need for new evidence on

Continual exposure to work-related stressors compounds nurses' workloads, increases their stress levels, and places increased demands on their abilities to adapt. Nurses need to learn and routinely use coping measures to prevent exhaustion and burnout. This article describes the assessment, plan, implementation, and evaluation of an in-house stress management continuing education program to aid staff members in halting the cyclic process of stress.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to explore the actions of nurse leaders that facilitated clinical nurses' active involvement in emergency department (ED) catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) prevention programs.
BACKGROUND: Hospitals face increasing financial pressures to reduce CAUTI. Urinary catheters, often inserted in the ED, expose patients to CAUTI risk. Nurses are the principal champions of ED CAUTI prevention programs.
METHODS: This was a qualitative analysis from a multisite, comparative case study project. A total of 52 interviews and 9 focus groups were analyze

BACKGROUND: Postnatal stabilisation of newborns is a critical phase that directly influences neonatal survival and long-term outcomes. Neonatal nurses play a central role in this process, yet limited research has explored their lived experiences, particularly regarding clinical responsibility, organisational constraints, and emotional demands. This study aimed to explore nurses' lived experiences of stabilising newborns during the immediate postnatal period and to identify the clinical, organisational, relational, and emotional dimensions shaping this practice.

AIM: To explore the lived experience of the trusting nurse-patient relationship among patients admitted to internal medicine wards.
DESIGN: A qualitative study guided by van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenological approach.
METHODS: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with fourteen hospitalised patients in a Danish University hospital in 2024. Data were analysed through thematic reflection.
RESULTS: The analysis revealed one overarching theme-the journey towards trust: bridging the need to feel safe with the pathways to wellbeing-supported by five subthemes. Trust developed through a dyn

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To examine international studies that specifically focus on transition to practice for graduate registered nurses in rural and remote areas.
BACKGROUND: Supportive graduate nursing programmes are essential for enabling nursing graduates' transition to practice and reducing attrition rates. Literature examining support measures for nursing graduates within metropolitan areas is abundant. However, there is a paucity of evidence on effective graduate programmes for rural and remote-based nursing graduates.
DESIGN: A systematic approach was used to identify robust research w
