Evidence and unknowns for the relevancy of applying current parenteral nutrition support recommendations among infants born less than 750 g or younger than 25 weeks' gestation: A narrative review.

With advancements in neonatal care, the viability of extremely low-birth-weight (ELBW) infants, especially those born extremely preterm, is increasing. However, specific recommendations for managing parenteral nutrition (PN) support in nanopreterm infants (<750 g or <25 weeks' gestation) are lacking. We aim to evaluate current recommendations and highlight considerations for applying them to nanopreterm infants. The author team used English-language articles related to nutrition in ELBW with emphasis on nanopreterm infants, along with studies on fetal growth and metabolism. Current PN support

Supporting healthy pregnancies: Examining variations in nutrition, weight management and substance abuse advice provision by prenatal care providers in Alberta, Canada. A study using the All Our Families cohort.

BACKGROUND: Pregnancy is a critical time for fetal development, and education of women regarding healthy lifestyle choices is an important function for prenatal care providers, those that provide care to women during pregnancy. Within Canada, women choose to receive pregnancy care from one of a variety of publicly funded care providers. This study examines the association between the type of care provider(s) seen during pregnancy and the provision of advice related to nutrition, weight management and substance abuse. METHODS: Using data from the Alberta-based All Our Families prospective preg

An inflammation-nutrition-surgery-based INSEP model and a web-based clinical decision support system for predicting early postoperative infection in elderly patients with hepatocellular carcinoma: a multicenter retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Early postoperative infection (EPI) is common in elderly patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and is associated with poor prognosis. Effective risk prediction tools are urgently needed for early identification. This study aimed to develop and validate an inflammation-, nutrition-, and surgery-based INSEP nomogram model for predicting EPI-related adverse events in this population. METHODS: A total of 988 elderly HCC patients from two medical centers were retrospectively enrolled and randomly divided into a training dataset (n = 692) and an internal validation dataset (n = 2

Food and Drug Administration Expert Panel on Infant Formula "Operation Stork Speed" June 2025: Part 3, Marketing of Infant Formulas, Breastfeeding Support, Hypoallergenic Formulas, and Nutrition for Preterm Infants.

The United States formula industry uses aggressive marketing strategies that exploit parental anxieties, undermine breastfeeding, and violate ethical international standards, all of which contribute to early formula introduction and disparities in breastfeeding. In addition, misleading or complex labeling contributes to caregiver and provider confusion regarding the content of formulas. A centralized, Food and Drug Administration-maintained database of infant formulas could support caregivers and healthcare professionals in countering misinformation and making evidence-based decisions. Effect of intensive nutrition training, education and support versus standard therapy in reducing the need for insulin therapy in gestational diabetes (INTENSE-GDM): a protocol for a randomised controlled single-centre trial in Denmark.

INTRODUCTION: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) poses health risks due to hyperglycaemia, which can lead to clinical complications for mother and child. While dietary therapy serves as first-line treatment, approximately one-third of women with GDM require insulin to obtain glycaemic control. However, insulin therapy amplifies hospital care expenses and personal burdens. Intensive nutrition education, training and support may improve dietary intake leading to glycaemic control and reducing the need for insulin therapy. This study investigates the effectiveness of intensified dietary therapy

Post-rehabilitation self-management support on physical activity and nutrition, including mHealth, improves physical capacity, physical activity, and health related quality of life in people with Parkinson's- results from a randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Maintaining long-term engagement in physical activity (PA) and following nutrition recommendations after rehabilitation is challenging for people with Parkinson’s. Sustained behavioural change requires more than initial education; person-centred, self-management support may be key to maintain health-promoting routines. However, structured follow-up is often lacking. Digital health interventions, including mobile health (mHealth), offer scalable solutions to provide ongoing support beyond rehabilitation. This study aimed to examine the effect of an individualised, mHealth support pr

Burn Patient Metabolism and Nutrition.

Following severe burns, patients have unique metabolic derangements that make adequate nutritional support imperative for their survival and recovery. Patients with burns have persistent and prolonged hypermetabolic states that lead to increased catabolism following injury. During rehabilitation, catabolism leads to increased muscle wasting and cachexia. Failure to adequately meet the patient's increased nutritional requirements can lead to poor wound healing, increased infections, and overall organ dysfunction. Because of these risks, adequate assessment and provision of nutritional needs are…
