BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: In England and Wales, coroners issue Reports to Prevent Future Deaths (PFDs) when an inquest identifies concerns that future deaths may occur unless action is taken. Although PFDs have increasingly been used to study preventable deaths in other contexts, care home deaths have remained largely unexamined. This study examined coroners' construction of neglect in care home deaths involving older adults and considered the implications for future prevention.
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: We undertook a Foucauldian Critical Discourse Analysis of 15 publicly available PFDs

Hospital-at-Home (HaH) is increasingly promoted as a patient-centered and cost-effective alternative to conventional hospitalization. While its clinical and organizational benefits are well documented, less attention has been paid to the forms of work on which HaH relies and to their gendered implications. This article examines HaH as a situation where paid healthcare work is transformed into unpaid caregiving work, and analyzes how this process reinforces gender inequalities. The study draws on an ethnographic case study conducted over eighteen months in one of France's largest HaH institutio

Background/Objectives: Caring behaviors are key components of nursing practice and contribute to patient outcomes and satisfaction. In emergency departments (EDs), where care is delivered under time pressure, caring behaviors may be shaped by organizational constraints. Patients and nurses may perceive caring behaviors differently. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and evaluate the psychometric properties of the CBI-24 and CBI-24-P for use in Slovenian EDs, assess the level of caring behaviors among ED nurses, examine differences in perception between nurses and patients, and ex

BACKGROUND: Each year, thousands of pregnant or postpartum women enter prison and jails across the U.S. During the COVID-19 pandemic, pregnant people who were incarcerated were at increased risk of infection and health complications. Little is known about the role of national public health, medical, and carceral organizations in promoting the health and well-being of pregnant and postpartum people who are incarcerated during the COVID-19 pandemic. The objectives of this study were to assess publicly available COVID-19 communications and guidance from national organizations to better understand

BACKGROUND: Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) is a minimally invasive treatment for achalasia with results comparable to laparoscopic Heller myotomy (LHM). Studies have described the development of proficiency for endoscopists learning to perform POEM, and societies have defined educational and technical objectives for advanced endoscopy fellows in training. However, there is limited guidance on the organizational strategy and educational plan necessary to develop an achalasia service with POEM expertise.
AIMS: We aim to outline the steps for design and implementation of a successful POEM pr

BACKGROUND: Child protection workers (CPWs) are exposed to physical and psychological violence initiated by clients. The consequences associated with exposure to this type of trauma and others are compounded by the anxiety generated by the feelings of being accountable and the constant scrutiny and monitoring CPWs are under. Previous research suggests that acting according to one's professional values can help protect against the effects of trauma exposure and the anxiety associated with being held accountable when situations devolve into crises.

OBJECTIVES: Effective pharmacological treatments for opioid use disorder (OUD) continue to be underutilized, particularly within specialty substance use disorder (SUD) treatment organizations. Few studies have examined whether specific practices to recruit prescribers, financial needs, and human resource needs facilitate or impede the implementation of pharmacotherapy.
METHODS: Surveys were completed by administrators from 160 treatment programs in Florida, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Respondents described availability of five pharmacotherapies for treating OUD, organizational resource needs, curren

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Preoperative anaemia is an independent risk factor for a higher morbidity and mortality, a longer hospitalization and increased perioperative transfusion rates. Managing preoperative anaemia is the first of three pillars of Patient Blood Management (PBM), a multidisciplinary concept to improve patient safety. While various studies provide medical information on (successful) anaemia treatment pathways, knowledge of organizational details of diagnosis and management of preoperative anaemia across Europe is scarce.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: To gain information on various

PURPOSE: Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) are implementing interventions to achieve triple-aim objectives of improved quality and experience of care while maintaining costs. Partnering across organizational boundaries is perceived as critical to ACO success.
METHODS: We conducted a comparative case study of 14 Medicaid ACOs in Oregon and their contracted primary care clinics using public performance data, key informant interviews, and consultation field notes. We focused on how ACOs work with clinics to improve colorectal cancer (CRC) screening - one incentivized performance metric.

With the efficacy and costs of medications rising rapidly, it is increasingly important to ensure that drugs be prescribed as rationally as possible. Yet, physicians' choices of drugs frequently fall short of the ideal of precise and cost-effective decision making. Evidence indicates that such decisions can be improved in a variety of ways. A number of theories and principles of communication and behavior changes can be found that underlie the success of pharmaceutical manufacturers in influencing prescribing practices. Based on this behavioral science and several field trials, it is possible
