Treatment of Childhood-Onset Lupus Erythematosus Panniculitis With Rituximab.

IMPORTANCE: Childhood-onset lupus erythematosus panniculitis (LEP) is a rare and chronic disfiguring disease. A paucity of literature exists on the clinical manifestations of this disease and how best to treat it. OBJECTIVES: To describe the clinical features of childhood-onset LEP and report on the use of rituximab in treatment-refractory childhood-onset LEP. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: A retrospective, observational case series study was conducted of 4 patients with childhood-onset LEP who presented to a single-center, tertiary care clinic with pediatric dermatology and pediatric rh…

Breast panniculitis with liquefactive fat necrosis: A case report.

Panniculitis is a group of heterogeneous disorders characterized by inflammation of the subcutaneous adipose tissue. Panniculitis of breast tissue as the initial manifestation has rarely been reported and is often misdiagnosed. Breast panniculitis may cause substantial morbidity and early diagnosis and treatment are important for the prognosis of the disease. The present study has reported a case of panniculitis with inflammation of the mammary glands as the initial presentation and provided a detailed description of ultrasonography, X-ray, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and o…

Vemurafenib-induced histiocytoid neutrophilic panniculitis simulating myeloid leukaemia cutis.

Neutrophilic panniculitis is an infrequent but characteristic adverse event under therapy with BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Since the approval of vemurafenib for treatment of metastatic melanoma in 2011, only two cases of neutrophilic panniculitis in malignancies other than melanoma have been published. Histiocytoid infiltrates of immature neutrophils resembling histiocytes or myelocytes have been reported in Sweet's syndrome and rarely in other neutrophilic dermatoses. We describe a novel variant of neutrophilic panniculitis with histiocytoid myeloid cells in an early lesion from a patient treate…

A case of Chagas' disease panniculitis after kidney transplantation.

Chagas' disease carries high morbidity and mortality due to acute parasitemia or cardiac, digestive, cutaneous or neurologic chronic lesions … y, underwent kidney transplantation from a cadaveric donor and displayed three months later a thigh panniculitis from which a biopsy unveiled amastigote forms of Trypanosoma cruzi. The skin lesions disappeared following treatment with benzonidazole, but the drug was discontinued due to severe pancytopenia. Along with this, infection with E. faecalis and cytome …

Lipomembranous Panniculitis Associated With Venous Insufficiency, Morphea, and Psoriasis.

A 45-year-old obese woman diagnosed with morphea on her leg, presented with a 7-year history of cutaneous depressions on her thigh, chest, and back. She recalled that the lesions followed a three-phase course: edema, hardening, and atrophy. Clinical examination revealed a cutaneous indurated depression localized to the thigh, chest, and the back (Figure 1).

Pancreatic panniculitis associated with pancreatic carcinoma: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Pancreatic panniculitis is a very rare complication of pancreatic cancer, most often accompanying rare acinar cell carcinoma. We herein report a case of pancreatic panniculitis that was associated with pancreatic mucinous adenocarcinoma. PATIENT INFORMATION: A 57-year-old male was referred to our hospital for weight loss. A physical examination revealed subcutaneous nodules on his lower extremities. The blood test showed abnormal increases in amylase, lipase, and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 levels. A computed tomography scan detected a hypodense 2 × 1.5 cm solid mass with an uncle…

[Mesenteric panniculitis associated with acute pancreatitis: about a case].

Mesenteric panniculitis is a nonspecific inflammation involving the mesentery. Its clinical presentation is variable depending on the stage of the disease. Clinical signs are usually pain but half of the patients remain asymptomatic. Palpable abdominal mass, weight loss, nausea and vomiting. There may be an inflammatory syndrome of variable intensity. Panniculitis is suspected based on scan showing hyperdense mesentery with adhesions to adjacent organs. Histologically there is adipocyte degeneration causing foreign body reaction and appear lymphoplasmacytic inflammatory lesions. We report a ne…

[Subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma : Two case reports].

Histopathology, immunohistochemical, and molecular genetic findings revealed the diagnosis of subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell-lymphoma in two patients, aged 44 and 70 years. The clinical morphology of the lymphoma manifestations showed varied significantly. One patient presented with a singular erythematous nodule in the chin region. The other patient suffered from extended plate-like resistances and atrophy of the face, upper arms and left breast. Hemophagocytic syndrome was not present in either patient. Prognosis of subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma without associated hem…

Pathological aspects of bovine focal fibrogranulomatous proliferative panniculitis (Lechiguana).

Lechiguana is a disease of cattle caused by an interaction between Dermatobia hominis warble and the bacteria Manheimia granulomatis. It is characterized by subcutaneous swellings that grow rapidly and result in death after 3 to 8 months. The objective of this paper was to investigate some vascular and fibrogenic changes of the disease at different lesion stages by histochemical and immunohistochemical techniques. A peculiar histopathological aspect observed during a proliferative phase (before treatment) was the intense vasculitis, described as degenerative and fibro-proliferative, expressed

Systemic corticosteroids for subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma.

BACKGROUND: Primary cutaneous γ/δ T-cell lymphoma (PCGD-TCL) is aggressive and has a poor prognosis. In contrast, subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma (SPTCL) of the α/β T-cell receptor phenotype is known to follow an indolent course and have a more favourable prognosis. In the past, PCGD-TCL and SPTCL were often considered to be a manifestation of the same disease, and aggressive systemic polychemotherapy has commonly been the first-line therapy for both. Given the understanding that SPTCL is a separate and less aggressive entity, clinical data exclusively evaluating the efficacy of…

Subcutaneous panniculitis like T cell lymphoma associated with erythromelalgia.

Erythromelalgia is a rare disorder that simulates a small fiber neuropathy and patients often have painful erythematous extremities during episodes. It is of two types: A primary or inherited form that is sometimes associated with a Na channel mutation or a secondary disorder associated with an underlying systemic disorder. We present a 19-year-old boy who presented to us with erythromelalgia and a febrile illness with systemic rash. Detailed work-up revealed another unusual condition: Subcutaneous panniculitis like T cell lymphoma (SPTCL). This is the first report of an association of erythro…
