Cosmetic Approaches to Parotidectomy.

The parotid gland is located in a cosmetically sensitive area. Given cultural emphasis on cosmesis, using minimally invasive or hidden incisions, when appropriate, can significantly improve patient satisfaction and quality of life following surgery. Facelift-style incisions have been used since the late 1960s to approach parotid pathology. Several alternative incisions, including technology-assisted approaches, also have been described in the literature. To that end, this article explore the existing data regarding several historical and emerging cosmetic approaches to the parotid gland compar

[Parotid adenolymphoma: the enhanced MSCT manifestations and clinical pathological analysis].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the imaging manifestations of 16-slice enhanced CT of parotid adenolymphoma in the parotid gland and the corresponding pathology,in order to improve the understanding of the CT imaging manifestations of parotid adenolymphoma in the parotid gland. METHOD: The enhanced CT characteristics of 34 cases of parotid adenolymphoma in the parotid gland confirmed by histological pathology were retrospectively analyzed. RESULT: There were totally 86 lesions in 34 cases, of which 12 cases with lesions in bilateral sides and 22 cases with lesions in unilateral side. Sixty-six les

Giant pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid gland.

Pleomorphic adenomas are the most common benign tumors of the salivary glands. These adenomas generally present without pain and are slowly enlarged. However, they can reach enormous sizes, because they are often neglected by the patient and due to late diagnosis and intervention because of fear of surgery or sociocultural factors. This may lead to functional, aesthetic and social problems. In this article, we present a 55-year-old female patient with a giant pleomorphic adenoma in size of 15x15x20 cm, who presented with the complaint of a mass enlarged and swollen for 20 years in her left nec

Castleman's disease of the parotid gland: a case report.

Castleman's disease (CD) is a very rare disorder characterized by non-neoplastic growths in lymph nodes in any body regions, although over 60% of cases are located in the mediastinum. The head and neck is the second most commonly involved site, with up to 14% of cases. Of these, nearly 85% are located in the neck. These lesions rarely occur in the salivary glands. Clinically, CD can be divided into unicentric and multicentric forms. We report an unusual case with unicentric CD presenting as a parotid tumor in a 34-year-old woman. The lesion was found coincidentally during routine cranial magne

Surgery of parotid gland tumours in lagos: a 12 year review.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Tumours of the parotid gland are not common. Parotid tumours can pose a challenge both in diagnosis and treatment. Various factors contribute to the management difficulties of parotid tumours for the Head neck surgeon. The aim of the study is to determine the presentation and management of parotid tumours requiring surgery at the Burns and Plastic and Otolaryngology (ORL) units of the hospital. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective study carried out at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital from January 1994- December 2005. The medical case notes were reviewed for inf

A first branchial cleft anomaly within the parotid gland.

Although the parotid glands are affected more frequently by cysts and congenital lesions than other salivary glands, the benign multigerminal cyst arising from a duplication anomaly of the first branchial cleft within the parotid gland is extremely rare. Forty-two cases of this unusual cause of parotid swelling have been reported in the literature. An example of a first branchial cleft anomaly appearing clinically as a parotid tumor is reported.

Primary Ewing sarcoma of the parotid gland: Case report.

Ewing sarcoma (ES) is a rare malignancy typically involving the skeletal system, but it can present in extraskeletal sites (EES). Primary Ewing sarcoma of the parotid gland is extremely rare, with few cases reported. We present a case of a 24-year-old male with a rapidly growing left parotid mass diagnosed as EES through immunohistochemistry and confirmed by molecular testing. The patient received neoadjuvant chemotherapy, leading to significant tumor reduction, followed by a radical parotidectomy. Histopathology showed residual tumor with over 90 % necrosis. The patient remains disease-free u

Bilateral Mydriasis in a Post-parotidectomy Patient: A Case Report.

Anticholinergic agents, such as atropine and glycopyrrolate, are commonly utilized during anesthesia for their effects on secretion reduction and vagal activity. However, substantial dosages can induce mydriasis, which poses diagnostic challenges, particularly in head and neck surgeries. Despite their clinical relevance, limited studies explore these effects. A 35-year-old female presented with a left parotid mass and scheduled for a left superficial parotidectomy. Preoperatively, the patient exhibited normal ocular and neurological function. Postoperatively, fine bilateral ptosis, predominant
