Ilheus virus is an arbovirus with the potential for central nervous system involvement. Accurate diagnosis is a challenge due to similar clinical symptoms and serologic cross-reactivity with other flaviviruses. Here, we describe the first documented case of a fatal outcome following the identification of Ilheus virus in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of a patient with cerebral encephalitis in Brazil.

Hematopoietic cell transplantation is the preferred therapy for a substantial proportion of patients with life-threatening diseases of the lymphohematopoietic system. Recent advances in donor identification, disease eradication, and supportive care measures have broadened the application of transplantation and improved outcomes. Investigation of autonomic nervous system tonicity has been undertaken in 34 healthy persons (control group I), in 30 patients with non-complicated duodenal ulcer (control group 2), 38 patients with complicated gastroduodenal ulcer (10--with perforation, 13--with bleeding, 15--with stenosis) and 32 patients in the long-term period. A previously healthy Chinese male returned from working in the Malaysian jungle with a fever. A blood culture grew Gram-negative bacilli that were initially identified as Burkholderia cepacia by the VITEK 2 system but were subsequently found to be Burkholderia pseudomallei by partial sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. The identification of B. pseudomallei using commercially available automated systems is problematic and clinicians in non-endemic areas should be aware of the possibility of melioidosis in patients with a relevant travel history and blood cultures growing Burkholderia spp.

Sialolithiasis is the presence of calculus within the ductal system of a salivary gland. Among the diagnostic methods are inspection, palpation, checking the amount of saliva secreted and the identification of a sialolith. Pituitary non Hodgkin malignant lymphomas are rare. We report a case of large cell systemic lymphoma with pituitary and meningeal localizations in a 40-year-old patient. The clinical picture was panhypopituitarism with MRI appearance of pituitary adenoma and VII and VIII cranial nerves involvement. Diagnosis was made by identification of lymphomatous cells in CSF. The patient deceased in less than one year despite chemotherapy.
