Bacterial toxins such as cholera toxin induce diarrhea by both direct epithelial cell generation of cyclic nucleotides as well as stimulation of the enteric nervous system (ENS). The roles of different dopamine receptors in mediating the responses of the striato-nigral substance P (SP) feedback loop were investigated.
