Use of an intercostal vein for central venous access in home parenteral nutrition: a case report.

A key factor in the success of a home parenteral nutrition program is prolonged and safe access to the central venous system. There are some patients, however, in whom the cephalic, external jugular, internal jugular, subclavian, and saphenous veins cannot be used. In these patients, cannulation of an intercostal vein can be useful for central venous access. Such a patient was recently presented to our medical care facility with bilateral subclavian vein thrombosis, left external iliac vein thrombosis, and superior vena cava obstruction above the level of the azygous vein. A Broviac catheter w

Comparison of recurrent varicocele anatomy following surgery and percutaneous balloon occlusion.

Venography of 44 recurrent varicoceles in 37 patients demonstrated different anatomical patterns of recurrence in surgical patients (26) compared to those treated by percutaneous balloon occlusion (18). The 3 types of patterns identified included parallel, renal vein and transcrotal collateral pathways. Virtually all surgical recurrences were owing to mid retroperitoneal (27 per cent) or low (inguinal) parallel collaterals (58 per cent). The majority of post-balloon occlusion recurrences were due to either high retroperitoneal parallel (44 per cent) or renal vein collaterals (28 per cent). Sur

Intra-osseous venography in patellofemoral disorders. A preliminary report.

We have performed intra-osseous venography on 22 patients with chondromalacia patellae or patellofemoral osteoarthritis. Venous engorgement of the patella was demonstrated in both conditions regardless of the severity of the pathological changes.

[Selective catheterization of cervical and mediastinic veins by subclavian approach (author's transl)].

The authors present the selective catheterization of the veins of the neck and mediastinum via the subclavian vein. Benefits and complications of the technique are discussed. The subclavian approach is very helpfull and technique of choice when the femoral route is not available.

A proposal for a revision of the phlebographic classification of congenital venous malformations.

BACKGROUND: Venous malformation (VM) is the most frequent type of congenital vascular malformation. In terms of functional outcome local scl … nar (b) types. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed all patients with VM in whom a direct puncture phlebography was performed in our clinic between 2009 and 2018 to assess morphology and flow characteristics. Phlebographic assessment included: (I) differentiation of non-lacunar vs. lacunar type; (II) drainage assignment according to the existing classificatio …

[Surgery for deep venous reflux in the lower limb].

UNLABELLED: The effectiveness of the deep venous reconstructive surgery (DVRS) for reflux remains controversial. The more common etiology in … rried out: ambulatory venous pressure measurement and venography including ascending and descending phlebography. The goal of DVR surgery is to correct the reflux related to deep venous insufficiency at subinguinal level. But it must be kept in mind that DVR is frequently combined with superficial and perforator reflux, consequently all these mechanisms have t …
