Factors Associated with Chronic Low Back Pain in Hungary Based on the European Health Interview Surveys Conducted in 2009, 2014, and 2019: A Repeated Cross-Sectional Study.

Introduction: Low back pain (LBP) is the leading cause of disability worldwide, with substantial variation in prevalence across regions. It is associated with a wide range of biophysical, psychological, social, and lifestyle factors, as well as comorbid conditions. Given its high impact, identifying population-level correlations of LBP is essential for informing prevention strategies. This study aimed to assess demographic, socioeconomic, lifestyle, and health-related factors associated with LBP in Hungary. Methods: A repeated cross-sectional analysis was conducted using secondary data from th

Development and validation of the Michigan Chronic Disease Simulation Model (MICROSIM).

Strategies to prevent or delay Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD) are urgently needed, and blood pressure (BP) management is a promising strategy. Yet the effects of different BP control strategies across the life course on AD/ADRD are unknown. Randomized trials may be infeasible due to prolonged follow-up and large sample sizes. Simulation analysis is a practical approach to estimating these effects using the best available existing data. However, existing simulation frameworks cannot estimate the effects of BP control on both dementia and cardiovascular disease. This manuscr

The Use of mHealth Apps for the Assessment and Management of Diabetes-Related Foot Health Outcomes: Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Globally, diabetes affects approximately 500 million people and is predicted to affect up to 700 million people by 2045. In Australia, the ongoing impact of colonization produces inequity in health care delivery and inequality in health care outcomes for First Nations Peoples, with diabetes rates 4 times those of non-Indigenous Australians. Evidence-based clinical practice has been shown to reduce complications of diabetes-related foot disease, including ulceration and amputation, by 50%. However, factors such as a lack of access to culturally safe care, geographical remoteness, an

Prevalence and clustering of modifiable cardiovascular disease risk factors among elderly adults in Yuexiu district, Guangzhou City, China: a cross sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular disease has a high prevalence and mortality rate, which are mainly due to the aging population and the high prevalence and clustering of modifiable cardiovascular risk factors (CRFs); however, studies on the aging Chinese population are limited. The study aimed to investigate the prevalence and clustering of CRFs among the elderly population to provide evidence for the overall planning of medical resources and disease management. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 41,517 participants aged ≥ 65 years were recruited from January 2020 to April 2021 in the Yuexiu d

Mobile Health Care for People Who Are Homeless.

Individuals experiencing homelessness face significant challenges on a daily basis. The ongoing need to find shelter, safety, and food becomes a priority and often supersedes the need for health care. People who are homeless have significantly higher morbidity and mortality rates than those who are sheltered, at least in part because care is sought when health care issues become acute and more difficult to manage from a medical standpoint. Most acute care for this population is provided in the emergency department, which is more expensive and more fragmented than regular care provided by a pri

Advanced aging skin and itch: addressing an unmet need.

Itch is the most common skin disorder in the elderly and frequently diminishes quality of life in this population. The high prevalence of pruritus in elderly patients is attributed in part to the decline in the normal physiology of the advanced aging skin, and reflects poor hydration, impaired skin barrier, and altered neural function, all ultimately contributing to inflammation and pruritus. As the elderly population continues to grow, practitioners need to be aware of how to evaluate and manage pruritus, recognizing the common conditions contributing to itch in elderly patients as well as th

Under the magnifying glass: a wave of drug price transparency.

OBJECTIVES: Underserved populations often have difficulty accessing care for diabetic eye disease, including screening, referral, and treatment. Although barriers to diabetes care management have been well documented, less is understood about barriers specific to rural and underserved populations. In this study, we interviewed health care professionals to identify barriers to and facilitators of screening for diabetic eye disease and specialty care among underserved patients in Alabama. METHODS: We conducted 12 semistructured interviews with experts in ophthalmology, diabetes care management,

Human louse-transmitted infectious diseases.

Several of the infectious diseases associated with human lice are life-threatening, including epidemic typhus, relapsing fever, and trench fever, which are caused by Rickettsia prowazekii, Borrelia recurrentis, and Bartonella quintana, respectively. Although these diseases have been known for several centuries, they remain a major public health concern in populations living in poor-hygiene conditions because of war, social disruption, severe poverty, or gaps in public health management. Poor-hygiene conditions favour a higher prevalence of body lice, which are the main vectors for these diseas

Health status of the New York City prison population.

During a two-week period in June 1975, all 1,420 prisoners admitted to New York City Correctional Facilities were studied to determine the prevalence of current and past health conditions. Information was obtained from a standard admission health examination. Almost three-quarters of the male and female prisoners were 30 years or less. Of the study population, 57 per cent were black, 24 per cent were Hispanic and 17 per cent were white. Forty-one per cent reported a history of illicit drug use. More than one-quarter of the prisoners reported a present illness and three-fifths received at least

Perspectives on improving blood pressure control to reduce the clinical and economic burden of hypertension.

The clinical and economic burden of hypertension is high and continues to increase globally. Uncontrolled hypertension has severe but avoidable long-term consequences, including cardiovascular diseases, which are among the most burdensome and most preventable conditions in Europe. Yet, despite clear guidelines on screening, diagnosis and management of hypertension, a large proportion of patients remain undiagnosed or undertreated. Low adherence and persistence are common, exacerbating the issue of poor blood pressure (BP) control. Although current guidelines provide clear direction, implementa

Nationwide epidemiology of retinitis pigmentosa in Japan, 2011-2020: a population-based cohort study.

PURPOSE: Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is an inherited retinal disorder with limited contemporary national epidemiological data. This study aimed to describe the nationwide epidemiology of RP in Japan using a comprehensive national health insurance claims database. [Epidemiologic studies of various forms of meningitis based on public health reports in West Berlin from 1981 to 1985].

In the Federal Republic of Germany, four types of meningitis must be reported since 1980 instead of the previous two categories (i.e. meningococcal disease and other forms of meningitis). Consequently, various forms of purulent meningitis can be differentiated from viral meningitis. A retrospective study, considering the population of West Berlin, carried out between the years 1981 and 1985, shows the influence of age, nationality and living areas on morbidity and mortality rate. A critical evaluation was undertaken, considering possible changes in management efficiency of public health author
