Understanding developmental psychopathology in Type 1 diabetes through attachment, mentalisation and diabetes distress.

This article examines the combined roles of attachment mentalisation and diabetes distress in the psychological development of young people with Type 1 diabetes (T1D). We use these ideas to unify the evidence for psychological variables affecting young people and their families and suggest how diabetes distress and mentalisation might be part of the pathways for development of psychiatric diagnoses.Attachment theory's central hypothesis is that a secure relationship with a care-giver in the early life of a child is essential to normal emotional and relational development, whilst diabetes distr

The relative contribution of domains of quality of life to overall quality of life for different chronic diseases.

This study examined the contribution of the quality of life (QoL) domains physical, social and psychological functioning to the explanation of overall QoL. Various disorders may differentially affect QoL domains due to disease-specific factors and, consequently, the relationship between QoL domains and overall QoL may vary between diseases. We therefore studied this relationship for several diseases as well as the differential impact of these diseases on QoL. The present study had a cross-sectional design. We selected patients (aged 57 years and older) with one of the following eight chronic m

The impact of artificial intelligence literacy on learning engagement among university students: the mediating role of psychological capital and the moderating role of professional identity.

The rapid proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education has positioned AI literacy as an essential student competency, yet the mechanistic pathways linking this competency to academic outcomes remain insufficiently understood. This study investigates the direct and indirect effects of AI literacy on learning engagement, with a specific focus on the mediating role of psychological capital (PsyCap) and the moderating role of career commitment.Employing a stratified random sampling design, we conducted a cross-sectional questionnaire survey among 1,198 undergraduate students a

Highlighting the Way Forward: A Review of Community Mental Health Research and Practice Published in AJCP and JCP.

Articles published in the two most prominent journals of community psychology in North America, the American Journal of Community Psychology (AJCP) and Journal of Community Psychology (JCP), provide a clear indicator of trends in community research and practice. An examination of community psychology's history and scholarship suggests that the field has reduced its emphasis on promoting mental health, well-being, and liberation of individuals with serious mental illnesses over the past several decades. To further investigate this claim, the current review presents an analysis of articles relev

Cross-sectional and prospective associations between multidimensional psychological distress and urogenital disorders: findings from the UK biobank.

Psychological distress is a major public health issue with multisystemic effects, yet its multidimensional nature and specific links to urogenital disorders remain inadequately characterized due to methodological limitations of prior studies. This large-scale study utilized data from the UK Biobank (N = 501,988) to investigate both cross-sectional and prospective associations between six validated psychometric instruments including emotional distress (MHS-20), neuroticism (N-12), somatic symptoms (RDS-4), depression (PHQ-9), and anxiety (GAD-7) and eight non-infectious urogenital conditions. Psychological heterogeneity and residential demands in early-stage aging: evidence from a human-environment systems framework.

BACKGROUND: Research on home-based eldercare has increasingly moved beyond physical safety and accessibility to consider psychological wellbeing and everyday activity. However, older adults are still often treated as a homogeneous group. Less is known about how different psychological profiles are associated with residential preferences, activity patterns, and perceived environmental support among early-stage aging adults. METHODS: This study focused on early-stage older adults and applied a human-environment systems framework to examine the relationships among psychological characteristics,

Evaluating statistical fit of confirmatory bifactor models: Updated recommendations and a review of current practice.

Confirmatory bifactor models have become very popular in psychological applications, but they are increasingly criticized for statistical pitfalls such as tendency to overfit, tendency to produce anomalous results, instability of solutions, and underidentification problems. In part to combat this state of affairs, many different reliability and dimensionality measures have been proposed to help researchers evaluate the quality of the obtained bifactor solution. However, in empirical practice, the evaluation of bifactor models is largely based on structural equation model fit indices. Other cri

An Application of Yagna Pathy: A Spiritual, Cost-Effective, Indigenous Low-Intensity Psychological Intervention to Manage Common Mental Disorders: A Cross-Sectional Pilot Study in India.

Elements of Common Mental Disorders (CMD) like stress, depression and anxiety are significant contributors to the global burden of disease. Even though they affect people at all socioeconomic levels, most of those in the low-income and middle-income populations lack access to efficient psychological and pharmaceutical interventions. One potential solution to this issue is the application of indigenous low-intensity psychological interventions like Yagna Pathy. The current cross sectional pilot study includes a total of 426 heterogenous group of people suffering from Stress, Anxiety and Depress

Interprofessional education on autism and intellectual disabilities: Program description and initial evaluation.

Project INTERprofessional Autism Collaborative Training (INTERACT) is an interprofessional education program designed to prepare graduate students in psychology, special education, and speech-language pathology to work with autistic children with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities. The rising prevalence of autism, coupled with increased appreciation for interprofessional approaches to service delivery, indicates the need for university training programs to prepare graduate students to work interprofessionally with this population; yet descriptions of such programs and their effective

Typologies of intimate partner violence-maternal parenting and children's externalizing problems: The moderating effect of the exposure to other forms of family violence.

Typologies of IPV and parenting practices in mothers who experienced police-reported IPV remain surprisingly unexplored, in addition to how those typologies are linked with children's externalizing problems. Using data from 162 Portuguese mother-child dyads with a police or child protection services referral of IPV, this study aimed to: (a) identify IPV-parenting typologies; (b) test the associations between typologies and children's externalizing problems, and (c) examine the moderating effect of children's exposure to other forms of family violence in those associations. Maternal parenting and the development of adolescent self-esteem: A longitudinal twin study.

Adolescence is a critical period for self-esteem development, yet the extent to which perceived maternal parenting practices are prospectively associated with self-esteem after accounting for overlapping genetic and shared environmental influences remains unclear. Using longitudinal TwinLife data from 1524 German twins (323 monozygotic and 439 same-sex dizygotic twin pairs), this study examined perceived maternal warmth and psychological control from ages 13 to 15. Classical twin models decomposed genetic and environmental variance and covariance, and ACE-beta models estimated prospective asso

The Psychology of Testimony and the Interrogation of Children: Contesting the Expertise of Teachers and Female Police Officers, circa 1922-1944.

In this case study, I focus on two previously underresearched groups in the history of police interrogation: officers of the Female Criminal Police, established around 1926, and schoolteachers who, beginning in 1924, collaborated with the Leipzig Criminal Office as so-called criminal aides (Kriminalhelfer). Both the Female Criminal Police and the criminal aides of the Leipzig Criminal Office claimed a distinct niche within the domain of interrogation practices. They publicly asserted a superior aptitude for questioning children and adolescents, particularly in cases involving the sexual abuse
