Distance learning during COVID-19 lockdown: Impact on adolescents with specific learning disorders and their parents.

BACKGROUND: The transition of teaching from in-person to Distance Learning (DL) due to the COVID-19 pandemic led to negative effects on students' psychological wellbeing and academic achievement. The worst consequences have been experienced by students with so-called special educational needs, as well as by their parents. However, very little emphasis has been placed on the effects of DL in students with Specific Learning Disorders (SLD). The present work aimed to evaluate the effects of DL during the COVID-19 lockdown in Italian students with SLD and in their parents. METHODS: An online surv

Response of Healthcare Workers to COVID-19 Protocols after the Index Case at 37 Military Hospital, Ghana.

The diagnosis and management of COVID-19 are much dependent on the adherence to standardized protocols. Healthcare workers play a crucial role in the case management of COVID-19 in many institutions. Globally, the disease burden is increasing, and the mortality has reached over 2 041 426 compared with 323 000 in May 2020. In West Africa, the pandemic has shown a slow but steady rise in many countries. Existing protocols and their utilization are best assessed after the occurrence of the index case. General aim. The study assessed the health worker's response to COVID-19 protocols at three desi

Implementing an eHealth Model of Care for Pediatric Patients and Families at the End of Treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (EMERGE): Type 2 Nonrandomized Hybrid Implementation-Effectiveness Trial Study Protocol.

BACKGROUND: Despite increasing survival rates for childhood cancers, physical and psychological late effects are common. The end-of-treatment period is recognized as a complex transition period, and there are few evidence-based models of care to address patient and family needs during this early survivorship period. The EMERGE model of care has been developed to provide eHealth-delivered, multidisciplinary care to patients and families in the 12 months following treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common type of pediatric cancer. OBJECTIVE: The primary aim of this study is to

Can symptom-severity phenotypes identify depression risk after mild traumatic brain injury? A cluster-based approach.

BACKGROUND: Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) affects millions worldwide and frequently leads to secondary depression. Early identification of high-risk individuals is critical for targeted mental-health screening in this population. Data-driven phenotyping offers a promising avenue to unmask hidden symptom patterns, but few studies have combined unsupervised clustering of post-concussion profiles with established clinical and psychosocial metrics. We aimed to classify post-concussion symptom-severity profiles in adults with mTBI and to evaluate their association with secondary depression ris

Fighting social isolation of vulnerable people with dementia through remote group meetings: An experience report.

With the COVID-19 pandemic (WHO, 2020), social distancing became a crucial means to prevent further spread of the disease (Wendy et al, 2020). This raises concerns for dementia care (Wang et al, 2020), as social distancing leads to reduced cognitive stimulation, exercise, social networking and leisure activities (Brown et al, 2020). Active participation in art has shown positive impacts on the psychosocial wellbeing of stroke survivors (Morris et al, 2019). Additionally, engaging with humor potentially improves the memory, communication and self-esteem of people with dementia (PWD) (Stevens, 2

Patient-Reported Barriers to On-Time Surveillance After Successful Endoscopic Eradication of Barrett's Esophagus Neoplasia: A Multicenter Qualitative Interview Study.

INTRODUCTION: Ongoing surveillance after successful endoscopic eradication therapy for Barrett's esophagus (BE)-related neoplasia is essential to detect and manage recurrence. Despite established surveillance interval recommendations after complete eradication of intestinal metaplasia (CE-IM), patient compliance with repeat endoscopy is frequently suboptimal. Understanding patient drivers to adherence is essential to inform interventions that address the high rates of overdue surveillance and loss to follow-up. METHODS: Patients with BE-related neoplasia who achieved CE-IM were eligible for i

Associations between death anxiety and probable posttraumatic stress disorder and clinical depression and anxiety in older Israeli adults during wartime.

The outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7, 2023, has presented unprecedented challenges to older adults' mental health, including increased posttraumatic stress, anxiety, and depression. The current study examined potential war- and age-related factors associated with probable posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), clinical depression (probable depression), and generalized anxiety disorder (probable anxiety) among older adults during the ongoing war. Moreover, due to the continued threat of death, we examined whether death anxiety is an additional contributing factor to older adults' pr

[Psychotherapy of posttraumatic stress disorders].

Since the diagnosis of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) was introduced in DSM-III in 1980, a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches have been developed to address the specific problems and needs of traumatized patients. Successful treatment of PTSD requires a well thought-out therapeutic attitude. The therapist must find a well-balanced position between over-identification and turning away out of helplessness. A sensation-seeking attitude should be avoided as should the danger of vicarious traumatisation. In many instances, PTSD can not be treated sufficiently by psychotherapy alone: a co
