Lumbar hemorrhagic synovial cysts: diagnosis, pathogenesis, and treatment. Report of 3 cases.

BACKGROUND: To define the etiologic, clinical, histological, and surgical features of lumbar hemorrhagic synovial cysts (LHSCs). Three personal cases are reported together with a review of the pertinent literature. METHODS: We identified 3 cases of LHSC treated in our departments and 20 cases culled from the literature. RESULTS: A total of 23 cases of LHSC were selected. All the patients underwent surgical treatment because of untreatable radicular pain and/or neurological deficits. The amount of bleeding, either massive or minor but repeated, influenced the timing of surgery. In our cases,

An interdisciplinary approach for the management of periapical lesion using regenerative approach: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Periapical lesions are common sequelae of endodontic infections, often presenting as chronic apical periodontitis. These lesions result from the microbial invasion of the root canal system, leading to inflammation and subsequent bone resorption. While conventional root canal therapy is the primary treatment modality, it occasionally fails to resolve periapical pathology. In such cases, surgical intervention becomes necessary. CASE PRESENTATION: This report presents the case of a 32-year-old female of Indian ethnicity with chief complaints of pain and pus discharge in the upper rig

Management of Large Radicular Lesions Using Decompression: A Case Series and Review of the Literature.

The purpose of this study was to report the clinical efficacy of decompression for 3 cases with large periapical lesions and to review technique details. Three cases with large periapical cystic lesions were treated with decompression after root canal treatment. A traditional decompression technique was used for the first case. After aspiration, mucogingival incision, irrigation, and incisional biopsy, a pediatric endotracheal tube was sutured in place and kept for 3 weeks for lesion debridement. An aspiration/irrigation technique was adopted for the second case. An 18-G needle with a syringe

[Prevalence of the various types of periapical lesions and the significance of histologic evaluation].

To determine the prevalence of radicular cyst and chronic apical periodontitis among human periapical lesions 299 lesions were analysed during the past 6 years. The specimen were obtained during extraction or endodontic surgery. Of the lesions assessed, 195 (65.2%) were found histopathologically to be cystic, 96 (32.1%) were diagnosed as chronic apical periodontitis and 8 (2.7%) were observed as "other lesion". Studies to determine the diagnostic features and prevalence of these lesions have failed to reach a consensus view, though the treatment and the prognosis may differ to the lesion prese…

Absence of radiometric differentiation between periapical cysts and granulomas.

A recent study reported that the mean density of periapical cysts was greater than that of periapical granulomas. This study, which used a larger sample size and a robust method for standardization of density and contrast between images, found no difference between the radiographic density of cysts and granulomas classified by microscopic evaluation. Cysts tend to be larger than granulomas, but there was wide variation in size of both types of lesions. There was no significant correlation between the density of a lesion and its size.

[Description of an early medieval skull from Biel-Mett with peculiar dental findings].

During the excavation of a church in Biel a medieval cranium was found (600-700 a.c.) which showed a large radicular cyst in the middle facial area, located on tooth 16 which caused considerable facial deformation. Furthermore carious lesions and evidence of chronic periodontal disease were discovered, which gave some indications on the way of life the individual had conducted. The examinations proved that a combination of methods of examination was able to increase the yield of information on the given object. Such studies should be conducted more often on an interdisciplinary way.

Hyaline bodies: some observations on their ultrastructure.

The ultrastruct of hyaline bodies was examined. Their constant association with elements of squamous epithelium pointed to an epithelial component in their structure. Elements of red blood cells, blood vessels, and endothelium were not evi-ent in these hyaline bodies, thereby negating avascular origin. Due to ultrastrucural limitations, the exact composition of the structures could not be determined.

Calculus-like deposit at apex of tooth with refractory apical periodontitis.

It is generally accepted that bacteria in or outside the root canal are the reason for apical periodontitis and endodontic failures. This case report presents a 60-year-old woman with a periapical lesion and a fistulous tract which did not respond to conventional root canal treatment. During periapical surgery, granulomatous tissue was removed and a calculus-like deposit was observed on the root surface. A radicular cyst was diagnosed. Nine months after this calculus-like deposit had been removed and the cyst enucleated, complete recovery of the bone had occurred. It is suggested that the pres…

Epidemiological Features of 4777 Cysts and Odontogenic Tumors Based on the 2022 WHO Classification.

OBJECTIVE: The epidemiology of cysts and odontogenic tumors is important for differential diagnosis and treatment strategies. We aimed to de … s old. Males represented 54.4% and females 45.7% of the total sample. The most prevalent cysts were radicular cysts (58.6%), dentigerous cysts (17.9%), and odontogenic keratocysts (13.3%). The most prevalent odontogenic tumors were odontomas (40.1%) and conventional ameloblastoma (17.6%). CONCLUSIONS: Our study was the first retrospective analysis to determine …

Odontogenic and nonodontogenic cysts: An analysis of 526 cases in Turkey.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to determine the age, gender, and sites of different types of odontogenic cysts (OCs) and non-OCs (nOCs) … OCs and 17 (3.2%) nOCs. There were 406 (77.2%) inflammatory OCs and 103 (19.6%) developmental OCs. Radicular cysts were the most frequent (66.4%), followed by dentigerous (19.2%) and residual (10.8%) cysts. Only nasopalatine duct cyst was found as nOC in this study (3.2%). CONCLUSION: The distribution of jaw cysts in the Turkish Eastern Anatolian population is …

A 10-Year Retrospective Analysis of 64 Cases of Cystic Lesions of the Oral and Maxillofacial Region in a Nigerian Tertiary Hospital.

OBJECTIVES: Orofacial cysts are broadly divided into odontogenic and nonodontogenic types, epithelial or non-epithelial, and developmental o … us cyst (n = 21; 32.8%) was the most predominant lesion followed by periodontal (n = 12; 18.8%) and radicular cysts (n = 10; 15.6%). CONCLUSIONS: Cysts of the orofacial region are common in this environment and like previous studies from Nigeria odontogenic cysts are not uncommon, the most predominant being dentigerous cysts.

Detection of IgA subclasses and J chain mRNA bearing plasma cells in human dental periapical lesions by in situ hybridization.
