Neuropathic pain is caused by nervous-system lesions. Early studies on the pathomechanisms of this abnormal pain state have focused on the directly injured fibers and neurons. INTRODUCTION: Idiopathic medullary herniation is an infrequent disease, which shows up in clinical form as a progressive mielopathy, most commonly known as the Brown-Sequard syndrome.
