Mixed mode (MM) separation using a combination of MEKC and polyelectrolyte multilayer (PEM) coatings is herein reported for the separation of achiral and chiral analytes. Hyponatremia is a potential side-effect of antidepressants that was observed most frequently in connection with compounds acting on the serotonin system. Risk of hyponatremia was found to be higher in the elderly. Authors report a case of a 65-year old male patient who was treated with venlafaxine-mirtazapine combination for recurrent depression. Severe hyponatremia, requiring intensive care, emerged in connection with the treatment. The authors emphasize the importance of the regular checking of serum sodium levels during antidepressant treatment, especially in elderly patients.

Mancozeb is a fungicide of the ethylene bisdithiocarbamate (EBDC) class complexed to the metals manganese and zinc. Nabam is the sodium salt of the EBDC backbone. The purpose of this study was to determine if these EBDC compounds alter essential metal homeostasis and glutathione status in Sprague-Dawley rats. Our findings indicate EBDCs caused accumulation of copper in kidneys, but not liver. Arsenic impairs male reproductive functions. However, it is not clear whether different arsenic compounds similarly affect fertility. In this study, we compared the impact of sodium arsenite and arsenate on sperm quality and fertility. After 56 d exposure, male Wistar rats were mated and pregnant females were evaluated by fertility indexes.
