Health messages that engage audiences after the COVID-19 pandemic: content analysis of Chinese posts on social media.

BACKGROUND: After China lifted strict COVID-19 control measures, the winter of 2023 saw widespread outbreaks of emerging infectious diseases, including various strains of influenza, mycoplasma pneumonia, and COVID-19. These diseases have heightened the risk of repeated infections and severe illness, making health communication strategies increasingly important for health promotion. While most studies focus on message dissemination by authorities and experts, the role of patient-generated content, shared by individuals with firsthand health experiences, remains underexplored. METHODS: In this

A scoping review of media campaign strategies used to reach populations living with or at high risk for Hepatitis C in high income countries to inform future national campaigns in the United Kingdom.

BACKGROUND: With the advent of direct acting antivirals, the World Health Organisation proposed eliminating Hepatitis C as a public health threat by 2030. To achieve this, countries need to diagnose, engage in care and treat their undiagnosed populations. This will require sensitisation campaigns. However previous media campaigns have had mixed impact. We conducted a scoping review to identify and understand the impact of previous Hepatitis C media campaigns. These findings could inform the delivery of future campaigns. METHODS: We searched five electronic databases for published literature o

Characterizing In-Home Safety Challenges and Strategies for Children With Medical Complexity.

OBJECTIVES: Medical advances have allowed more children with medical complexity (CMC) to live at home, but previous research has linked implanted tubes to patient safety events. We aimed to characterize challenges and strategies parents use to deliver their children's tube-related care at home and how parents communicate about their experiences to identify system-level intervention opportunities. METHODS: We conducted a qualitative study using virtual contextual inquiry to asynchronously observe parents through self-submitted photos, text-based messages, or audio recordings with a national sa

'Out of sight, out of mind' - results of a focus group study on gamblers' use and evaluation of player protection measures in Germany.

BACKGROUND: The growing prevalence of gambling-related problems underscores the importance of effective player protection measures and highlights gambling addiction prevention as a critical public health challenge. However, the perspective of gamblers has so far rarely been taken into account in the development of player protection measures in Germany. Furthermore, research indicates that gamblers’ awareness and use of available information and support services for gambling problems are relatively low to moderate. METHODS: To address this gap, a focus group study was conducted with a total of

Reduced Diarrhea Prevalence and Improvements in Handwashing with Soap and Stored Drinking Water Quality Associated with Diarrheal Disease Awareness Measured by Interactive Voice Response Messages in the CHoBI7 Mobile Health Program.

The Cholera-Hospital-Based-Intervention-for-7-Days (CHoBI7) mobile health program promotes water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) behaviors through interactive voice response (IVR), voice, and text messages to reduce diarrheal diseases in Bangladesh. The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between responses to CHoBI7 WASH IVR quiz messages and subsequent diarrhea and WASH behaviors. Fourteen CHoBI7 IVR quiz messages on handwashing with soap and treatment of stored water were sent to 517 households with 1,777 participants during the 12-month program period. IVR message re

Implementation Strategies for Self-Measured Blood Pressure Monitoring in Racially and Ethnically Diverse Populations (InSPIRED): A study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Self-measured blood pressure (SMBP) monitoring with clinical support is an evidence-based practice to improve hypertension control. However, it can be challenging to implement in safety-net systems that disproportionately serve low-income and/or racial/ethnic minority populations at risk of worse hypertension outcomes. We therefore propose a hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial to evaluate the effectiveness of multi-level implementation strategies to increase the use of SMBP monitoring in two urban safety-net systems. METHODS: We will conduct a patient-level randomized cont

[Improving the quality of patient information in outpatient cataract surgery through SMS messaging: A prospective study].

INTRODUCTION: Cataract surgery, generally performed on an outpatient basis, is the most common surgical procedure in France. Patients are contacted the day before and the day after by telephone, which is time-consuming and subject to great inter-operator variability. Automated SMS allows standardized information to be sent instantaneously to a large number of patients. Our goal was to assess the impact of SMS messaging on patient satisfaction and compliance. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Our prospective study consisted of two arms: an intervention group receiving SMS, and a control group. We recorde

Protocol of a randomized controlled trial of sun protection interventions for operating engineers.

BACKGROUND: Skin cancer are increasing and some types of skin cancer are among the most lethal cancers yet are easily preventable. However, sun protection interventions are rarely implemented among outdoor workers. Our prior work shows that Michigan Operating Engineers (heavy equipment operators) spend an average of 4-5 hours in the sun, about one-third reported getting sun burned at least once a summer, and over half burned more than once a summer. About three-quarters of the sample never or only sometimes used sun block. METHODS/DESIGN: Using the Health Belief Model as a guide, this randomi
