Traumatic tooth injuries are common in children. When permanent teeth are involved, it can be a challenge to save these teeth. This clinical case study describes the multidisciplinary treatment of a complex crown fracture and luxation of a right maxillary incisor along with esthetic management. After periodontal surgery including guided bone regeneration and endodontic treatment, we used a glass-fibre-reinforced composite post to increase retention and distribute stress along the root. The restoration was completed using composite in an incremental technique. During follow-up appointments, cli

There are several treatment options for patients with coronal fractures, subgingival caries perforations, and root resorption. Frequently, forced eruption is not considered, although in many cases of single-rooted teeth, forced eruption is the "gold standard" for producing an esthetic result without jeopardizing periodontal support for adjacent teeth. Sufficient tooth length, achieved through forced eruption, ensures the periodontal health of the "biologic width" and crown margin and thus a successful restorative outcome.

INTRODUCTION: Dens invaginatus (DI) and Dens evaginatus (DE), the developmental anomalies affecting the morphology of the tooth structure are extremely rare to occur. DI occurs because of invagination of a crown into dental papillae. DE is a tubercular emergence from occlusal surfaces of posterior teeth and lingual surfaces of anterior teeth. The two anomalies on separate teeth are frequently mentioned, but their co-occurrence in a single tooth is a rare entity.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 20-year-old male patient presented with the rare combination of DE and DI on a dilacerated maxillary right later

Soft tissue deficiency in a tooth extraction site in the aesthetic area is a common and challenging clinical situation. This case report demonstrates the successful treatment of extensive gingival recession and buccal bone dehiscence associated with a hopeless tooth. Initially, a connective tissue graft was used to cover the root and thicken the soft tissue. After 2 months, the tooth was extracted, an implant was immediately placed, and a temporary restoration was installed. After 3 months, the soft tissue exhibited a natural and harmonious architecture. A custom zirconia abutment and crown we

The purpose of this study was to observe the changes in bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (B-ALP) and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-5b (TRAP-5b) in a patient diagnosed with short root anomaly (SRA). The detailed clinical data and history of related clinical symptoms of the SRA patient were retrieved. Oral examination showed that the shape and color of the tooth crown were normal. Tooth 11 and 12 were missing, and the mobility degree of other teeth was II-III. Panoramic radiograph examination showed that the root length only reached the neck of the tooth. Laboratory results showed that b…

UNLABELLED: Immediate implant placement is an approach to immediately insert a dental implant into newly created extraction socket following tooth extraction. Since osseointegration is one of the major factors for implant success, placing an immediate implant in between mesial and distal roots acts as natural surgical template and bone formation around the implant from extraction socket acts or gives better osseointegration. We reported 4 cases, in which nobel technique was used. It was used in mandibular first and second molars where we do immediate implants in case of a tooth beyond repair a

Based on recent studies regarding the advantages of flapless immediate implants on the maintenance of the soft tissue architecture (especially at papillae level) in those situations where it is necessary to extract an anterior tooth, this case report describes a clinical procedure designed to replace a hopeless central incisor (2.1) showing root resorption adjacent to an implant-supported crown (1.1), whose gingival margin is 2 mm coronal regarding the hopeless tooth to be replaced. After the extraction of the hopeless tooth (2.1), a flapless immediate implant was placed. The implant-bone gap

A clinical examination of 98 patients aged 20 to 75 years was carried out to identifyclinical and epidemiological features of hard tooth tissueshypersensitivity. The survey found out what stimuli (cold, hot, sour, mechanical, chemical) cause the appearance of dental hyperesthesia. The detailed survey of the affected area aimed to determine the presence of dental caries, gingival recession, wedge-shaped defects, erosions, microcracks and chipped enamel, as well as wear of the tooth crown. Forty-threepatients of 98 (43.88%) had tooth sensitivity. Most affected age group was 25-34 years (33%). Am…

Here, we report the complete resolution of a calcifying cystic odontogenic tumor (CCOT) in the right mandible after marsupialization in an 8-year-old girl with a mixed dentition. Clinical, radiographic, and histopathological findings showed a simple cystic variant of CCOT in the region of the deciduous second molar, with dislocation of the permanent second premolar tooth germ. Initial treatment involved marsupialization, including extraction of the involved deciduous tooth, incision of pathological tissue, and creation of a window in the extraction socket. The crown of the dislocated second pr

We have determined the general features of epithelial-mesenchymal interactions during fetal and mature adult stages of odontogenesis in the selachian spiny dogfish, Squalus acanthias. The general features of odontogenesis included the formation of an extended dental lamina, bud, cap, bell, and crown stages as identified and described using serial sections from fetal as well as adult specimens and light microscopy. Fetal and adult lengths, the rostrum-caudal fin distance, were correlated with the number of tooth rows and columns present in each specimen. This positional information and terminol

PURPOSE: To investigate the effect of immediate provisionalization of single-tooth implants at healed sites for peri-implant soft-tissue conditions, focusing on papilla formation around single implants.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In total, 12 patients received a total of 12 implants in the incisor, canine, or premolar region of the maxilla or mandible at healed sites with immediate chairside provisionalization. After 4 months, the temporary crown was replaced with the permanent crown. After 40 ± 13.1 months, clinical follow-up was conducted, assessing probing pocket depth (PPD), bleeding on probi

A major esthetic concern is soft tissue defects around implant restorations, which often result in an extra long prosthetic crown. This report describes a modified prosthetic-surgical approach to the treatment of peri-implant horizontal and vertical soft tissue defects in an esthetically demanding patient. One month before surgery, the implant crown restoration was removed, the preexisting implant abutment was reduced, and a short provisional crown, at the level of the homologous contralateral incisor, was applied. Root fractures in the middle and apical thirds of the root are treated by repositioning and for approximately 6 weeks of immobilization while those in the cervical third are immobilized for 3 months. Even though the results are good, some root-fractured teeth are lost and replaced by dental implants or fixed partial dentures. One historic but effective treatment option for those root fractures with unfavorable crown to root ratios is an endodontic implant in middle and apical third root fractures. This method offers immediate stable fixation of a crown and its coronal root segment to the under

Cysts of this site are quite common in mature ewes in New Zealand and the British Isles, although their true prevalence is not yet known. In most examples, an unerupted incisor is embedded in their wall but some do not contain a tooth. The cysts are lined by parakeratinized stratified squamous epithelium and generally exhibit a flat interface between the epithelium and the connective tissue. They may become secondarily infected, in which case they exhibit chronic inflammation. In some cases, foci of cementum are attached to the epithelial lining. When a tooth is involved, the cysts arise from

Tooth wear scores (ratios of exposed dentin to total crown area) were calculated from dental casts of Australian Aboriginal subjects of known age from three populations. Linear regression equations relating attrition scores to age were derived. The slope of the regression line reflects the rate of tooth wear, and the intercept is related to the timing of first exposure of dentin. Differences in morphology between anterior and posterior teeth are reflected in a linear relationship between attrition scores and age for anterior teeth but a logarithmic relationship for posterior teeth. Correlation

The restoration of teeth affected by molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH) is challenging. To this end, preformed stainless steel crowns (SSCs) are a good option; however, their conventional use involves the removal of tooth structure. In the Hall technique, the SSC is seated over the primary teeth without caries removal or tooth preparation, aiming to seal carious lesions. This case series reports the use of SSCs in a similar way to the Hall technique for 3 pediatric patients with MIH. The high-caries-risk patient in case 1 lost hypomineralized enamel and developed a carious lesion immediate

In the course of a lifetime the crowns of teeth wear off, cementum thickens and the pulp closes-in or may stiffen. Little is known about how these changes affect the tooth response to load. Using a series of finite element models of teeth attached to the jawbone, and by comparing these to a validated model of a 'young' pig 3-rooted tooth, the effects of these structural changes were studied. Models of altered teeth show a stiffer response to mastication even when material properties used are identical to those found in 'young' teeth. This stiffening response to occlusal loads is mostly caused

Traumata to primary teeth occur very often in small children. The highest prevalence of developmental disturbances of permanent teeth after trauma to their predecessors has been recorded after intrusive injuries of primary teeth. In the present survey 47% of the recalled children had such developmental disturbances. The majority of developmental disturbances consisted of enamel hypoplasia (59%) which included discoloration, defects or a combination of both. In some cases the clinical feature of enamel defects could be diagnosed radiographically before tooth eruption. However, the total number
