This retrospective study analyzed the quality of 1069 referral letters written by school principals to our learning disability clinic. Utilizing a self-devised checklist having four domains (with 26 items), the audit revealed that in only nine (34.6%) items, the necessary information was available in >90% of referral letters.

Children and adolescents with SGCE-myoclonus dystonia showed a progression of motor symptoms during a mean follow-up of 4 years. Patients developed a significant increase in the severity of axial and limb myoclonus, as well as dystonia during writing. Consequently, patients reported a marked decline in their speech, writing, and walking abilities. Up to 74% of patients had a psychiatric diagnosis, most commonly anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

This study compared U.S. and Japanese grade school teachers' perceptions of the strengths and weaknesses of children in their classrooms identified as fitting commonly used criteria for a learning disability.
