3D surface defect map for assessing buccolingual profile of single tooth gaps following alveolar ridge preservation.

AIM: A new, non-invasive approach suggests using single intraoral optical scanning to analyze the ridge profile of single-tooth gaps following alveolar ridge preservation in the absence of a baseline scan. This method involves creating a three-dimensional (3D) surface map to identify and assess contour changes and ridge profiles based on the adjacent teeth. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present study was designed as a cross-sectional pilot analysis on a convenience sample of patients undergoing alveolar ridge preservation. Intraoral optical scans were taken on 23 patients, capturing data from 30

Stem cells in dentistry--Part II: Clinical applications.

New technologies that facilitate solid alveolar ridge augmentation are receiving considerable attention in the field of prosthodontics because of the growing requirement for esthetic and functional reconstruction by dental implant treatments. Recently, several studies have demonstrated potential advantages for stem-cell-based therapies in regenerative treatments. Mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) are now an excellent candidate for tissue replacement therapies, and tissue engineering approaches and chair-side cellular grafting approaches using autologous MSCs represent the clinical state of…

New-Generation Customized Titanium Meshes for the Guided Bone Regeneration of Severe Alveolar Ridge Defects: Preliminary Results of a Retrospective Case Series.

If a prosthetically guided implant rehabilitation is to be carried out, the patient must have adequate bone volume, which is not always present due to bone resorption in the alveolar process. An ef-fective technique in regenerative surgery involves the use of titanium mesh to recreate the missing bone volume. A new generation of meshes have been created, presenting a new texture with mi-croholes and possessing space-making and barrier effects. The primary objective of this study was to measure the height and width of the regenerated bone following the use of a new-generation customized titaniu

Contemporary treatment of the resorbed avulsed tooth: a case report.

This report describes the treatment sequence after traumatic loss of a maxillary central incisor in a 15-year-old patient. Following extraoral root canal treatment and initially successful replantation, the case presented 9 years later with complete root resorption. After augmentation with an autologous mandibular corticocancellous graft, a dental implant was placed in a second stage surgery. The case highlights the challenge facing clinicians in providing the appropriate standard of care for today's treatment options.

Long-term results after horseshoe sandwich osteotomy of the edentulous maxilla as a preprosthetic procedure.

The long-term results in 30 patients with maxillary atrophy who have been operated on using a horseshoe sandwich osteotomy and interpositional bone grafting are reported. The postoperative period ranges from 1-4 years. Lateral cephalometric X-rays, models and clinical investigations served to determine the resorption rate and the postoperative results. It could be shown that the vertical resorption rate amounts to 1.8 mm (20%) after 3 years. The sagittal resorption rate was about 1 mm with a wide individual range. Clinical investigation revealed satisfactory results in 28 patients.

Maxillary autogenous bone grafting.

Reconstruction of the atrophic maxilla for dental implant placement has many unique considerations. There are several methods available to augment the atrophic maxilla. Of these, autogenous bone grafting offers a well-proven predictable method for ridge augmentation and defect repair for dental implant placement. There are several advantages of using autogenous bone grafts. This article primarily focuses on the use of autogenous onlay bone grafts to reconstruct the atrophic maxilla.

Bone replacement following dental trauma prior to implant surgery--status.

Dento-alveolar trauma often leads to a need for reconstruction of the alveolar crest before an implant can be placed. Although autogenous bone grafts is considered the 'gold standard', this may be associated with patient morbidity and graft resorption. Consequently, the use of bone substitutes has increased. Today, a substantial number of biomaterials are available on the market, but only a few are well documented. The user should be aware that these biomaterials have different properties: resorbable or non-resorbable, time of resorption and resorption mechanism. The purpose of this review is
