Of individuals with Amyoplasia, 16.8% (94/560) involve only the upper limbs (Upper Limb Amyoplasia-ULA) and 15.2% (85/560) involve only the … g in ULA and LLA. Differential diagnoses separating LLA from the genetic forms of "lower limb only" arthrogryposis and ULA from "upper limb only" genetic forms of arthrogryposis and Erb's palsy is provided.

We present a direct anterior sternal split expansion as a surgical option for a case of severe Thoracic Insufficiency Syndrome (TIS) in an arthrogryposis-like patient. This patient's clinical features were published as a newly described syndrome: Adam Robert Wright Syndrome. The patient born with this syndrome displays characteristic craniofacial abnormalities, severe thoracic insufficiency syndrome, cleft palate, limb contractures, arthrogryposis, pulmonary hypoplasia, cryptorchidism, ophthalmoplegia and retinopathy, with normal intelligence. His severe thoracic insufficiency necessitated an …

A Chinese male infant with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC), ventricular and atrial septal defects, and Werdnig-Hoffmann disease (WHD) had deletions of the telomeric copy of the survival motor neuron (SMN(T)) and neuronal apoptosis inhibitory protein genes. Children with AMC or congenital heart disease, or both, and motor neuron disease should undergo testing for SMN(T) deletion. This rare association further illustrates the variable phenotypic expressions of WHD.

Multicentric carpotarsal osteolysis syndrome (MCTO) is a rare autosomal dominant skeletal dysplasia characterised by swelling and restriction of movement in the wrist and ankle joints, as well as osteolysis of the carpal and tarsal bones, that can be misdiagnosed as juvenile idiopathic arthritis. We describe five Indian families with heterozygous nonrecurrent missense pathogenic variants in exon 1 of MAF bZIP transcription factor B (MAFB).

A clinical case of an infant with Freeman-Sheldon syndrome, corresponding to a congenital multiple arthrogryposis with a peculiar aspect of "whistling boy" and multiple orthopedic malformations. The patient presents exceptional severity of the classic clinical manifestations of this pathology. It is the first case reported in Mexico of this rare disease. Analysis of the high risks in surgery and anesthesia of these patients and the review of the new anesthetic techniques used in Japan and North America are described.

The prevalence and incidence of myasthenia gravis is higher than previously thought. A potentially immunodominant T cell has been defined. The specific voltage-gated calcium channel subtype that is targeted by antibodies in the Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome has been identified, and there is further evidence for the pathogenic role of autoantibodies in some cases of fetal arthrogryposis and in acquired neuromyotonia, Morvan's syndrome and Miller-Fisher syndrome.

The authors relate about a non sporadic case of "Multiple pterygium syndrome" in a child born to consanguineous parents. Clinical features of the syndrome are: short stature, articular contractures, pterygia of the neck, axillae, elbows, facial anomalies, vertebral malformation, mental retardation. The syndrome, delineated as a distinct entity by Escobar, is a rare autosomal recessive disorder with a clinical heterogeneity, which is included within the "Arthrogryposis syndromes".

An abnormality of chromosome 16 in which there is extra genetic material present on the short arm (46,XY, 16p+) has been identified. This chromosomal aberration was associated with multiple congenital anomalies, including mid-facial hypoplasia, arthrogryposis, and mental retardation. On the basis of the cytogenetic appearance and the phenotype of the patient, this may represent a partial 16 trisomy. Unlike most abnormalities of chromosome 16, this syndrome was compatible with life.

A list of syndromes that include foot deformities as part of the clinical presentation has been compiled and subdivided into a descriptive classification. A brief discussion is presented of the embryology of the foot as it pertains to and helps explain the etiology of these various anomalies. Variations in the treatment of arthrogryposis multiplex congenita and ring constrictions are described. Finally, unique foot configurations are documented, which if seen should alert the clinician to consider the diagnosis of a specific syndrome.

Neu Laxova syndrome (NLS) is a rare and lethal congenital disorder characterized by severe intra-uterine growth retardation (IUGR), ichthyosis, abnormal facial features, limb abnormalities with arthrogryposis and a wide spectrum of severe malformations of the central nervous system (CNS). NLS is due to biallelic variants in three genes previously involved in serine-deficiency disorders (PHGDH, PSAT1 and PSPH), extending the phenotypic spectrum of these disorders.

Restrictive dermopathy is a lethal autosomal recessive disease characterized by tightly adherent skin, distinctive facial dysmorphisms, arthrogryposis, and pulmonary hypoplasia. While clinical findings are unique, histopathology and genetic analysis are critical for early diagnostic confirmation and to initiate appropriate management for this lethal disease. We report on a preterm Hutterite male neonate with biallelic ZMPSTE24 mutations to highlight the clinical and histopathological features of restrictive dermopathy and share our skin-directed management strategies.

Myasthenia gravis in children can be generalized or ocular, and associated with antibodies to acetylcholine receptors or muscle-specific kinase, but it can be negative for those antibodies (seronegative). It needs to be distinguished from congenital myasthenic syndromes and other neuromuscular diseases. In the perinatal period, transient neonatal myasthenia and arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, due to maternal antibodies, need to be considered. Juvenile myasthenia is similar in presentation and treatment to that in adults. Here we present guidelines for recognition, diagnosis, and treatment.

Spinal dysraphism, not associated with vertebral defect or arthrogryposis, was found in a 3-day-old Holstein-Friesian calf that was clinically diagnosed as having encephalopathy. The dysraphic lesion occurred in the sixth (C6) and seventh (C7) segments of the cervical spinal cord. Microscopically, the lesion was characterized by hydromyelia, syringomyelia, anomaly of the ventral median fissure, abnormal running of the myelinated nerve fibers in the white column, and absence of the central canal due to a developmental defect of the ependymal cells.

The multiple pterygium syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive condition characterised by arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, pterygia of the neck, fingers, and antecubital, popliteal, and intercrural areas, growth retardation, and facial, vertebral, and genital anomalies. We present two unrelated patients of 17 and 6 years of age, respectively, affected with this condition. We describe the natural history of their disorder since birth and review the spectrum of phenotypic variation of the multiple pterygium syndrome in 25 published cases.

Musculocontractural Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (MC-EDS) is a rare entity worldwide with underlying pathogenic variant in the carbohydrate sulfotransferase 14 (CHST14) gene. Previous reports of the same entity from India were of two unrelated cases. Ours is the first report of two siblings in an Indian family with craniofacial dysmorphism and distal arthrogryposis with a clinical diagnosis of EDS, where an underlying pathogenic variant in CHST14 was detected by exome sequencing.

A cutaneous abscess involving Neisseria gonorrhoeae is extremely rare outside the perineum. Such remote lesions are a result of disseminated gonococcal disease. A 12-year-old girl with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita developed a gonococcal abscess on the plantar aspect of her lateral forefoot after a two-week prodrome of pain, erythema, and swelling. The infection was successfully treated with open drainage, acetic acid dressing changes, and the administration of penicillin.

Four perinatally dying infants with multiple congenital malformations, including pulmonary hypoplasia, multiple ankyloses, abnormalities of the face and camptodactyly are presented. The differences both for severity of pulmonary hypoplasia and for the type of associated malformations suggest that this complex of abnormalities is not a single syndrome but a complex of related entities. These entities and some other genetical syndromes may form a "community of malformations" involving facial, skeletal (arthrogryposis, camptodactyly) and placental abnormalities.

A vertical infection system in hamsters produced by inoculating with Akabane virus was established as an experimental model of congenital muscular dystrophy (Fukuyama type) (FCMD) and arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC) in humans. Swollen fetuses, mummified fetuses, arthrogryposis and cranial deformities were produced in 13 of 415 newborn hamsters inoculated transplacentally (3.1%). The incidence was significantly higher than that in the control group (p less than 0.05). Eight cases presenting apparent abnormalities were examined histologically and virologically. We describe a female infant with manifestations of complete monosomy for chromosome 21 intrauterine growth retardation, failure to thrive, craniofacial anomalies, arthrogryposis-like features, and psychomotor retardation. Chromosome analysis demonstrated mosaicism for three different cell lines in the various tissues examined; 45,XX,-21/46,XX,del(21)(q11)46,XX. The existence of these three lines suggests a possible explanation for the few cases of "complete monosomy 21" which have been reported.
