Mucopolysaccharidosis type VI (MPS VI) is a genetically inherited lysosomal storage disorder. Severely affected children exhibit a range of skeletal abnormalities including short stature, facial dysmorphia, and dysostosis multiplex. Naturally occurring and transgenic animal models of MPS VI are also found which exhibit pathology similar to the human disorder. In this paper we have characterized the formation of trabecular bone from growth plate cartilage in a feline model of MPS VI. Patient acceptance, safety, and efficacy of poly-l/dl-lactic acid (PLLDL) bone plates and screws in craniomaxillofacial surgery are reported in this article. Included in the sample are 745 patients who underwent 761 separate operations, including more than 1400 surgical procedures (orthognathic surgery (685), bone graft reconstruction (37), trauma (191) and transcranial surgery (20)). Aneurysmal bone cysts are benign primary or secondary lesions that commonly arise in long bones and often before skeletal maturity. Little has been written about aneurysmal bone cysts that abut the physeal plate. The records of 15 patients with juxtaphyseal aneurysmal bone cysts were reviewed. Fourteen of the patients were referred with abnormal radiographs after evaluation for pain in the affected limb. The claw plate types used by us are manufactured according to the same principle. These plates are mostly applied in the treatment of multiple fragment fractures and in the fixation of osteotomies. A marked dissociation has been observed between the timed accumulation in calcified tissues of two related vitamin K-dependent proteins, bone Gla protein (BGP) and the recently discovered matrix Gla protein (MGP). Dwarfism was observed in a group of 30 crossbred pigs. Affected pigs had short limbs and retarded growth. Reduced long-bone length as well as flattening and caudal rotation of the humeral head and the distal femoral condyles were seen at necropsy. Metaphyseal growth plates in vertebrae were narrow and, in long bones, were closed prematurely. There was a sparing of growth plates in traction epiphyses.
