A novel skeletal drug delivery system using a self-setting calcium phosphate cement. 5. Drug release behavior from a heterogeneous drug-loaded cement containing an anticancer drug.

A novel drug delivery device based on a self-setting bioactive calcium phosphate cement formed from tetracalcium phosphate and dicalcium phosphate has been developed and tested in vitro using the anticancer agent 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP) as a model compound. X-ray diffraction results suggest that equimolar mixtures of the calcium phosphate salts were transformed into hydroxyapatite after being mixed with a dilute phosphoric acid solution, even in the presence of various amounts of 6-MP powder. The inclusion of 6-MP in the reaction mixture resulted in the formation of a homogeneous drug-containi

Support technology for weakly cemented roof roadways under alkaline water infiltration.

Alkaline water infiltration accelerates the softening of weakly cemented surrounding rock and degrades the anchorage performance of support members, thereby promoting roof separation and persistent roadway deformation. Taking the north-wing transportation roadway of the No. 7 coal seam in Dananhu No. 7 Coal Mine, Xinjiang, as a case study, this study proposes a staged control strategy consisting of strengthened primary support, dynamic monitoring, and secondary reinforcement. Numerical simulation, field monitoring, and cable pull-out tests were conducted to evaluate surrounding-rock deformatio

Functionalized Siloxane Coating as Protection of the Surface of Cement Composites Against Phototropic Colonization.

This article presents the concept of using a functionalised siloxane compound HOL9 with amphiphilic properties as a coating for cement composites to enhance their antifouling properties against algae. The biological properties of the compound were assessed based on its ability to inhibit chlorophyll fluorescence intensity, which is used as an indicator of photosynthetic activity and biofilm development. The greatest decrease in algal photosynthetic activity was observed for a 10% aqueous solution of HOL9 applied by painting. In these conditions, the maximum chlFI value decreased by 97.6%. In a

Analysis of the long-term sealing integrity of cement sheath in CO2 storage wells.

CO2 geological storage is widely regarded as one of the most technically mature and large-scale options for emissions reduction within CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage) technologies. However, CO2 corrosion and long-term injection/storage operations pose significant threats to the sealing integrity of cement sheaths in wellbores. Existing studies predominantly rely on numerical simulations to analyze the mechanical response on cement sheath under temperature-pressure conditions, neglecting the corrosion of cement sheath. However, there is a notable lack of theoretical computation m

Low-carbon cements review of freeze-thaw tests: Mediterranean corridor proposal.

The cement industry is a major contributor to global CO₂ emissions, which has led to the development of low-carbon cements. A critical factor in ensuring the durability of these materials is their resistance to freeze-thaw (F-T) cycles, especially as climate change expands the relevance of these tests beyond traditionally cold regions to areas with increasingly variable climates. This review analyzes current testing standards for low-CO₂ cements exposed to F-T cycles, highlighting gaps in performance research in this field. The study proposes a novel testing framework tailored to the specific

[Inventory and Distribution Characteristics of Pollutants and Carbon Dioxide Emissions in China's Cement Industry].

The cement industry is one of the main sources of air pollutants and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. To reduce such emissions, China has implemented a series of policies on the synergistic reduction of pollutants and CO2, which have significantly altered the characteristics of pollutants and CO2 emissions from the cement industry. In this study, a high spatial resolution air pollutant and CO2 emission inventory for China's cement industry was established for 2023 based on the concentrations from the continuous emission monitoring system (CEMS) and unit-level production data from China's Nation

Effect of Immediate Dentin Sealing on the Bond Strength of Resin Cement to Diabetic Dentin.

This in vitro study evaluated the shear bond strength (SBS) of resin cement to diabetic and non-diabetic dentin following immediate dentin sealing (IDS) or conventional bonding without IDS, under two cementation protocols: immediate cementation (IC) and one-week delayed cementation (DC) after provisionalization. From a biomimetic perspective, IDS represents a tissue-preserving adhesive approach aimed at maintaining a stable resin-dentin interface; however, systemic conditions such as diabetes mellitus may alter the dentin substrate and affect adhesive performance. A total of 120 extracted huma…

Finger Pulp Infection Due to a Retained Cement Bead: A Report of a Rare Case.

Finger pulp infections commonly occur due to bacteria entering through wounds. Foreign body-related pulp infections are uncommon and can present atypically. In this rare case, infection occurred due to a retained cement bead, which was surgically implanted for treating a compound, comminuted distal phalanx fracture with bone loss. A 22-year-old woman presented with persistent swelling, dull pain, and discharge from the pulp of the right middle finger for three months, unresponsive to empirical antibiotic therapy. Examination revealed localized swelling, tenderness with a puncture wound, and pu

Cementing stability: innovative polymethyl methacrylate-assisted salvage of mandibular reconstruction hardware.

Hardware exposure after mandibular reconstruction poses significant management challenges. Incomplete removal of reconstruction plates and screws may compromise stability, particularly when osseointegration prevents screw retrieval. A patient who underwent mandibular resection for odontogenic keratocyst with non-vascularized fibular reconstruction developed exposure of the fixation plate. During revision surgery, exposed screws were removed, but several screws remained firmly integrated within the reconstructed bone and could not be retrieved. To prevent destabilization, the plate was retained

The necessity of cement augmentation in metastatic femur stabilization explored by finite element analysis.

Intramedullary nailing is widely used for prophylactic stabilization of femoral metastases. Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) cement augmentation is often applied, yet its biomechanical necessity across lesion sizes remains uncertain. To address this, we evaluate whether intramedullary nailing (IMN) alone provides sufficient stabilization, whether cement augmentation offers additional displacement reduction, and how it affects stress distribution in the bone and implant across varying lesion sizes. Finite element analysis is performed on femoral models simulating 1 cm, 3 cm, and 5 cm midshaft meta

[Expert consensus on the application of bone cement in the treatment of diabetic wounds (2026 edition)].

Diabetic wounds, including diabetic foot ulcers, represent one of the severe complications associated with diabetes mellitus, which progress rapidly, are difficult to treat, and frequently lead to amputation or even life-threatening consequences. The current treatment principles for closing the wounds are based on improving limb blood supply while combining the application of surgical techniques-such as negative-pressure drainage, wound dressing changes, and coverage with muscle flaps, skin flaps, autologous skin, or artificial skin substitutes. In recent years, numerous studies have reported

Influence of PEA on Volume Stability of Cement-Based Grouting Materials and Its Mechanism.

Traditional expansive agents often fail to address early-stage cracking issues of grouting. A plastic expansive agent (PEA) can generate evenly distributed and closely packed microbubbles in the cement-basted grouting materials during the grout's setting process to cause volume expansion. However, its expansion mechanism is still unclear, and this restricts its practical application in engineering. Thus, the effects of PEA on the volume stability of grouting were evaluated in this research, and its mechanism was analyzed by setting time, pH, compressive strength, and bubble spacing coefficient

Effect evaluation of repairing cement-mortar microbeams by microbial induced carbonate precipitation.

The technique of microbially induced calcium carbonate precipitation (MICP) has a bright prospect in the repair of concrete structures with diseases, so the evaluation of the repair effect and its influencing factors are very important issues for civil engineers. In this paper, multi-phase mixed precipitate models are established by using the random particle generation and packing algorithm. Combined with the cohesive zone model, the deformation and failure behavior of notched cement-mortar microbeams before and after repair under three-point bending loading are numerically simulated. The reco
