BACKGROUND: There have been few evaluations of the risk of acute nonlymphocytic leukemia (ANLL) following therapy for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). Further, the relationship between cumulative dose of cytotoxic drug, radiation dose to active bone marrow, and the risk of ANLL following NHL have not been well described.

PURPOSE: Polymyositis and dermatomyositis are inflammatory muscular diseases of unknown cause. Many interventions are available to treat patients with these conditions including corticosteroids, immunosuppressive drugs, plasmapheresis, and total body irradiation. However, these therapies are not always effective, and they may be associated with certain serious side effects. BACKGROUND: The majority of children who present with their first episode of nephrotic syndrome, achieve remission with corticosteroid therapy.
