Fluorosis is a disease affecting the teeth and bones and caused by excessive ingestion of fluoride through drinking water. Fluoride concentration in ground water samples of the study area varies from 1.2 to 2.1 ppm., which is much above the permissible limit. The probable source of fluoride in ground water is fluoride bearing minerals like apatite, micas and clay minerals etc., present in the country rocks like shales and pyroclastic materials of the study area. This study investigates the fabrication and performance of ceramic nanocomposite membranes incorporating halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) and manganese oxide (Mn3O4) nanoparticles for lead removal from water. Six ceramic nanocomposite membranes were fabricated by varying HNT content (75, 80, and 85 wt.%) and sintering temperature (900 and 1,000 °C), with constant grog (8 wt.%) and Mn3O4 additions. Water flux measurements demonstrated that membrane H85-900 (85% HNTs, 900 °C) achieved the highest permeability of 390 L/m2.h at 5 bar. BACKGROUND: A 74-year-old Caucasian female presented with jaundice, clay-colored stools, diarrhea, and fatigue of 3 months' duration, accompanied by a weight loss of 6.8 kg. OBJECTIVE: To examine conceptual models of response shift, research design, and internal validity issues in the context of longitudinal outcome research using self-report measures such as pediatric quality of life.
METHODS: Growth modeling was introduced and illustrated using a previously published data set (Clay, Wood, Frank, Hagglund, & Johnson, 1995) of adjustment in children with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, and healthy controls.
