Long-term management of patients with cloacal malformation is still challenging to pediatric surgeons and urologists. Recently, we experienced postoperative cystolithiasis in a case of cloacal malformation. All stones were removed successfully by using an endoscopic pneumatic lithotripter through a combined approach from the cystostomy and the narrow reconstructed urethra. To the best of our knowledge, this was the first time for this combined approach to be applied in a patient with cloacal malformation. It has a particular appeal because it is simple, safe, and minimally invasive.

Myiasis in anurans is usually caused by diptera from the Calliphoridae, Sarcophagidae, Chloropidae, and Muscidae families. In this study, one case of cloacal myiasis and one of oral myiasis were registered in Aplastodiscus arildae, caused by Notochaeta bufonivora in Teresópolis, RJ, Brazil. With this report, a new host is listed for N. bufonivora, the first case of tree-frog myiasis caused by sarcophagid flies and the first occurrence of hylid myiasis in the Neotropical area.

OBJECTIVE: Report of a remnant tubal pregnancy after cloacal malformation repair.
DESIGN: Case report.
SETTING: A university hospital.
PATIENT: A woman with cloacal malformation repair.
INTERVENTION: Laparoscopic surgery.
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: Remnant tubal pregnancy.
RESULT: Laparoscopic right salpingectomy.
CONCLUSION(S): In this patient, ectopic pregnancy was caused by contralateral sperm transmigration to the remnant right tube, which was not connected with the left uterus.

Cloacal exstrophy patients are often difficult to reconstruct. Urinary continence is usually achievable only with a catheterizable stoma of some type. Since cloacal exstrophy is usually associated with omphalocele or gastroschisis, one-stage closure of the abdominal wall defect is frequently impossible. Cloacal malformation is a rare abnormality, occurring only in females and characterized by a direct communication between the gastrointestinal, urinary, and genital structures resulting in a single perineal opening. We report 2 cases of prenatal diagnosis of this condition with a varied ultrasonic appearance including fetal ascites, cystic retrovesical mass, ambiguous genitalia, nonvisualization of the bladder, and oligohydramnios.

In the past 15 years five neonates and children have been treated for high vaginal atresia at the Surgical Unit of Department of Pediatrics, University Medical School, Pécs, Hungary. Enterobacter hormaechei, a member of the Enterobacter cloacae complex, has emerged as an important pathogen in healthcare-associated infections. Advancements in phylogenetic analyses and whole-genome sequencing techniques have led to the identification of E. hormaechei in numerous locations worldwide. The emergence of antibiotic-resistant E. hormaechei isolates, including those that produce extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs), AmpC β-lactamases and carbapenemases, has been reported worldwide. Bacterial tracheobronchitis is a rare cause of airway stenosis in adults. This report describes a 73-year-old woman with a recent history of polysialadenitis, who presented with severe airway obstruction due to infection and stenosis of tracheal and bronchial tissue. A 6-year-old male blue-and-gold macaw (Ara ararauna) was presented with severe weakness, anorexia, and weight loss of 2 weeks duration. Cardiac auscultation revealed a soft systolic murmur. Blood cultures collected both antemortem and postmortem yielded pure isolates of Enterobacter cloacae. At necropsy, vegetative endocarditis was found involving the left atrioventricular valve. Microscopically, the lesion on the valve was characterized by a mixture of necrotic material, colonies of gram-negative bacteria, fibrosis, and inflammatory infiltrate consisting primarily of heterophils.
