Evaluating clinic and community-based lifestyle interventions for obesity reduction in a low-income Latino neighborhood: Vivamos Activos Fair Oaks Program.

BACKGROUND: Obesity exerts an enormous health impact through its effect on coronary heart disease and its risk factors. Primary care-based and community-based intensive lifestyle counseling may effectively promote weight loss. There has been limited implementation and evaluation of these strategies, particularly the added benefit of community-based intervention, in low-income Latino populations. DESIGN: The Vivamos Activos Fair Oaks project is a randomized clinical trial designed to evaluate the clinical and cost-effectiveness of two obesity reduction lifestyle interventions: clinic-based int

Sex Workers and the Mpox Response in Africa.

The ongoing mpox outbreak in Africa, now classified as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the World Health Organization, presents a severe challenge, particularly for vulnerable populations like sex workers. Despite the endemic presence of mpox in Africa since the 1970s, recent developments, including the emergence of a new clade Ib strain with increased transmissibility, have exacerbated the situation. Sex workers are at heightened risk due to their occupational exposure, compounded by stigma, criminalization, and limited access to healthcare. These factors significantly im

Latent tuberculosis among Latino migrant farmworkers in Connecticut.

STUDY OBJECTIVE: It is estimated that the prevalence rate of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) for the United States general population is less than 5%. "We Were on Our Own": Animal Slaughtering and Processing Industry Workers' Perspectives on Workplace Health and Safety During the COVID-19 Pandemic in North Carolina.

Workers in the animal slaughtering and processing industry have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our mixed methods study aimed to describe worker experiences during the pandemic, focusing on workplace health and safety. We surveyed 69 animal slaughtering and processing workers in North Carolina between April 2021 and July 2022 and conducted in-depth interviews with 9 workers between July 2022 and April 2023. Nearly all survey participants reported their employers provided (94%) and required (90%) face masks, but fewer reported engineering or administrative controls. I

Health-seeking in fragile and conflict-affected settings: how armed violent conflict shapes maternal and child health-seeking behaviours.

BACKGROUND: Maternal and child mortality rates remain unacceptably high in fragile and conflict-affected settings, where insecurity, displacement, and systemic disruption hinder access to healthcare. Nigeria is one of the countries most severely affected, and continues to experience widespread maternal and neonatal deaths despite global and national efforts to achieve SDG 3.1. This study explored stakeholders’ perspectives on how armed conflicts shapes maternal and child health-seeking behaviours and outcomes in northeastern Nigeria. METHODS: A qualitative approach was employed, involving Key
