When newborn hamsters were inoculated subcutaneously with chicken-embryo lethal orphan virus, tumnors developed at the site of inoculation in 23 out of 69 hamsters within 88 to 195 days of inoculation. These tutlnors and tissue cultures, prepared from a primary tumor, were transplantable to newborn and weanling hamsters. The primary tumnors and tissue cultures of a primary tumor were free of demnonstrable infectious virus. The virus is the first "nonhuman" adenovirus found to induce tumors in hamsters.

The combined use of the complement fixation test, the indirect immunofluorescent test and the ring precipitation test with C. burnetii antigen greatly enhances the effectiveness or serological study, as it allows not only to find out the spread of infection among population more completely, but also to differentiate, to a certain extent, "fresh" infectious process from immunological trace reaction. The arguments are presented in favor of introducing the antigen of C. burnetii, phase I, into practice, especially in surveying the sera of farm animals.

This study was undertaken to determine if Brazilian Pemphigus foliaceus (BPF) autoantibodies will fix complement as do P. vulgaris (PV) autoantibodies. Two cases of subacute sclerosing panencephalitis treated with 5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine (BUDR) are reported. Both cases had a classical presentation with motor and mental deterioration, myoclonic jerks, paretic colloidal gold curve in CSF and periodic bursts of the EEG. The diagnosis was confirmed by brain biopsy with light and electron microscopic findings. The authors report on the results of several years' research into the role of domestic and wild birds in the epidemiology and epizootiology of Q fever in Czechoslovakia.
