In silico evaluation of stress distribution after vertebral body augmentation with conventional acrylics, composites and glass polyalkenoate cements.

There exists clinical evidence of fractures in adjacent vertebrae subsequent to vertebral augmentation procedures, such as vertebroplasty (VP) and kyphoplasty (KP). A potential contributory factor to such fractures may be the excessive mismatch of mechanical properties between contemporary bone cements (i.e. polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and bisphenol-a-glycidyl dimethacrylate (BIS-GMA)) and bone. Aluminum-free glass polyalkenoate cements (GPCs) present an interesting alternative to conventional bone cements. GPCs adhere to the philosophy that implant materials should have mechanical characte

[Composite filling materials in animal experiments].

The pulp tolerance of the composites "Estic" (Kulzer) and "Compocap" (Vivadent) and the polyacrylatecement "Bondal" (Vivadent) was tested in a total of 97 cervical cavities in rhesus monkeys. "Bondal" was well tolerated by the pulp. Both composites when used without cement base provoked slight to moderate reactions. This could be avoided by using "Bondal" cement bases.

On-line PAT based monitoring and control of resin aging in protein A chromatography for COGs reduction.

Resin aging is a common occurrence in chromatographic processes and generally influenced by factors such as cleaning procedure and composition of the feed stream. Two major events occur along with protein fouling, one is the loss of protein A ligand and the other is non-specific, irreversible interactions of foulants with resin particles. Both these are responsible for resin aging. As a result, the performance of the resin suffers a fall, and this can be quantified through indicators like reduction in dynamic binding capacity, increased column pressure, or peak broadening. The number of reuse

Enhancing the bonding strength of PEEK through chemical modification with UV/ozone treatment.

PURPOSE: Polyetheretherketone (PEEK), a high-performance thermoplastic polymer, has been explored as a dental material because of its excellent mechanical strength and biocompatibility. Composite resin has been reported as a viable prosthetic material when appropriate surface treatment is applied to PEEK. We evaluated the effects of ultraviolet and ozone (UV/ozone) irradiation on the bond strength of PEEK. METHODS: Eighty-six rectangular PEEK specimens were fabricated and divided into two surface-pretreatment groups: untreated (CO) and UV/ozone-treated (UV). The contact angle, surface roughne

Fracture resistance and mode of failure of MOD cavities restored with short glass versus polyethylene fiber-reinforced composites: an in vitro study.

BACKGROUND: To improve the strength of large cavities, different types of fiber reinforcements are used. Polyethylene and glass fibers are two popular options, each with its own set of benefits. This study evaluated the fracture resistance and failure mode of two types of fiber reinforcements: short glass fiber-reinforced composites and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fibers in MOD cavities. METHODS: To evaluate fracture resistance, eighty sound extracted lower third molar teeth were randomly divided into five groups (n = 16): intact teeth (positive control) (R1), unrestored teeth (ne

Management of localized anterior tooth wear: a minimally invasive approach using the Dahl concept.

The Dahl concept has been widely recognized and applied in the management of localized anterior tooth wear for several decades, although its clinical implementation remains a topic of ongoing discussion. This case report describes a practical application of the Dahl concept in a patient presenting with severe wear of the lower anterior teeth, accompanied by reversible pulpitis. The report outlines a minimally invasive restorative strategy, guided by the principles of the Dahl concept, using composite resin to achieve occlusal elevation. This approach avoids extensive tooth reduction or the nee

Glass inserts. A new dimension in restorative dentistry.

Pediatric restorative dentistry has traditionally involved the placement of a stainless steel crown following a pulpotomy in primary molars. The increased exposure to systemic and topical fluorides has significantly decreased smooth surface caries, yet occlusal pit and fissure caries remains a problem. Occlusal caries involving the pulp of primary molars, leaving the supporting walls intact, may be restored conservatively with the use of glass inserts. The glass inserts provide the major volume of the restoration, therefore a minimal amount of posterior composite resin is necessary. The glass

Comparative evaluation of compressive strength of CAD-CAM polyetheretherketone and indirect composite Class II inlays: an in vitro study.

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is a high-performance thermoplastic polymer that is currently being utilized in the dental field due to its desirable mechanical characteristics, biocompatibility, and ease of integration into digital CAD-CAM processes. Despite the esthetic and esthetic benefits of composite resins in Class II inlays, mechanical performance in high-stress posterior restorations continues to be a clinical issue with the material. Although other research has been conducted to utilize PEEK in different dental treatment procedures, there are no direct comparative studies dealing specifi…

Long-term influence of applied dentin sealing techniques and luting material type on the bond durability of a resin CAD/CAM restorative material.

BACKGROUND: The durability of bonded CAD/CAM restorations depends largely on effective adhesion to dentin. Immediate dentin sealing (IDS) has been proposed to enhance bonding effectiveness compared with conventional delayed dentin sealing (DDS). Additionally, while resin cements remain the gold standard for luting, flowable composites have emerged as potential alternative. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different dentin sealing techniques and luting materials on the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) of CAD/CAM composite disc to dentin after immediate and long-term aging. METHODS:
