Eosinophilic fasciitis (EF) is a rare form of fibrosing disorder associated with peripheral eosinophilia with scleroderma-like skin induration and fasciitis in the extremities resulting in painful swelling, erythema and progressive contracture. We present a case report of EF and a literature review to raise awareness of this unusual condition and also highlight key features in its management.

Haemophilia, a bleeding disorder, causes recurrent intra-articular bleeding of the joints result-ing in chronic haemophilic arthropathy with fixed knee flexion deformity. Using a combination of homozygosity mapping and whole-exome sequencing (WES), we identified a novel missense c.1819G>A mutation (G607S) in the endothelin-converting enzyme-like 1 (ECEL1) gene in a consanguineous pedigree of Turkish origin presenting with a syndrome of camptodactyly, scoliosis, limited knee flexion, significant refractive errors and ophthalmoplegia. ECEL1 mutations were recently reported to cause recessive forms of distal arthrogryposis. This report expands on the molecular basis and the phenotypic spectrum of ECEL1-associated congenital contracture syndromes.

BACKGROUND: Numerous surgical approaches for muscular torticollis are not effective enough to completely release the contracture and prevent further development of craniofacial asymmetry. Cosmetically unacceptable scars on the neck and compulsory functional exercises after surgery were also common problems. We applied the therapeutic principle of scar contracture to the surgical treatment of muscular torticollis. Surgical incision determination and the postoperative protocol were considerably improved.
