Is Kangduo robotic distal pancreatectomy more economically efficient and effective in postoperative outcomes compared to laparoscopic surgery? A propensity-matched analysis.

Robotic platforms, historically led by the da Vinci system, may reduce postoperative complications compared with laparoscopy, but higher costs have limited general adoption. The updated Kangduo Surgical Robot (KD-SR2000) system is a recently introduced robot-assisted endoscopic surgical device originally designed in China. We sought to compare perioperative outcomes and in-hospital costs of KD-SR2000 assisted distal pancreatectomy (RDP) versus laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy (LDP). From January 2017 to October 2025, a total of 257 patients were included. The final analysis included 170 pati

The learning curve for laparoscopic pyloromyotomy.

Over a 34-month period, 51 open and 33 laparoscopic pyloromyotomies were performed for infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis. The patients' weight ranged from 1.2 to 5.3 kg. The mean operating time was 28 minutes for the open group and 41 minutes for the laparoscopic group. The average time to accept normal feeds was 41 hours in the open group and 32 hours in the laparoscopic group. There were three perforations, one inadequate pyloromyotomy, and one wound infection in the open group. In the laparoscopic group one patient underwent conversion to open surgery because of a duodenal perforation…

Comparative Analysis of Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Performed in the Elderly and Younger Patients: Should We Abstain from Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy in the Elderly?

BACKGROUND: The elderly population is gradually increasing due to an increase in the quality of life and therefore the frequency of gallbladder stones in the population is also increasing. However, a considerable number of physicians tend to postpone or solve the problem with medical treatment instead of performing surgery in the elderly patients. In this study, we aim to compare the outcomes of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) in the elderly and younger patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The medical records of 665 patients undergoing LC were evaluated retrospectively. The patients were divided

Bilateral video-assisted thoracoscopic thymectomy for Masaoka stage IIIA thymomas.

BACKGROUND: Larger invasive thymomas are generally resected via an open approach with thoracotomy or sternotomy. Following accumulation of experience and modifications to the technique, certain invasive tumors can be safely resected by video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) without resorting to sternotomy. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Thirteen consecutive patients with large invasive thymomas, who underwent bilateral VATS thymectomy, were analyzed retrospectively. RESULTS: All patients underwent radical en bloc resection of the tumor and the involved structures, without breaching the tumor capsule

Outcome of Laparoscopic Common Bile Duct Exploration After Failed Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography: A Comparative Study.

Background: Common bile duct stones (CBDS) are treated with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) followed by laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) or with the single-stage laparoscopic common bile duct exploration (LCBDE) and LC. Multiple ERCP attempts and failure increase the risk of postprocedural complications. In such circumstances surgery is advocated. The aim of the study is to compare the outcome of LCBDE and LC in patients who had never had an ERCP, to that of patients who underwent previously failed ERCP. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 54 patients undergoing LCBDE a

Intraoperative technical difficulty during laparoscopy-assisted surgery as a prognostic factor for colorectal cancer.

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopy-assisted surgery has technical drawbacks compared with open surgery, although laparoscopic surgery has become widely adopted with evidence of oncological safety for colon cancer treatment. The oncological risk of technical difficulties during laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer has not been previously reported. We aimed to investigate whether a technical difficulty encountered during laparoscopic surgery can be considered a recurrence-related factor for colorectal cancer. METHODS: Data from 427 patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer be
