High-intensity focused ultrasound can be used for the primary treatment of prostate cancer and biochemical recurrence after radical prostatectomy or radiation. Complications of high-intensity focused ultrasound include urinary retention, urethral stenosis, stress incontinence, urinary tract infections, dysuria, impotence, and rarely, rectourethral or rectovesicular fistula. We describe a patient presenting with urinary retention, urinary tract infections and intermittent stress incontinence, later found to be associated with pubic bone osteomyelitis stemming from a prostatopubic fistula.

Women who have symptoms related to the genitourinary system present daily in a typical family medicine practice. The most common complaints are dysuria, increased urinary frequency, and incontinence. In the vast majority of cases the underlying problem is either urinary tract infection, urinary incontinence without infection, or bladder pain without infection that may be termed painful bladder syndrome/interstitial cystitis. This article discusses epidemiology, pathophysiology, risk factors, diagnosis, and treatment of these conditions.

A 66-year-old woman with previous hysterectomy had dysuria and vaginal spotting for 1 month. Computed tomography showed a heterogeneous presacral mass with eccentric calcification. Biopsies of the bladder and vagina and transrectal biopsy of the pelvic mass yielded only inflammation. T2-weighted magnetic resonance images revealed a heterogeneous mass with wavy hypointensities. Computed tomographically guided biopsy targeting at the calcified area disclosed thread-like materials, thus confirming the diagnosis of gossypiboma.

We report a case of lupus interstitial cystitis in 17 year-old female. The patient presented with suprapubic pain, urinary frequency, dysuria, nocturia and no bacterial growth. Intravenous pyelography showed a low capacity bladder with thickwall, and a bilateral ureterohydronephrosis. Interstitial cystitis was confirmed on bladder biopsy specimen. Clinical symptoms remained eventhough after steroid treatment. Clinical signs of cystitis occurring in a patient with systemic lupus erythematous could be a manifestation of a lupus cystitis.

The study population consisted of 832 premenarcheal girls. Vaginal cultures are performed on 40 premenarcheal girls suffering from vulvovaginitis. All were less than 7 years old. This patients were seen in primary cares. In 23 cases (57.5%) E. coli was isolated, Enterococcus (30%), mixed flora (10%) and G. vaginalis (2.5%). Common clinical characteristics were pruritus (97.5%), vaginal discharge (67.5%). Dysuria and abdominal pain constituted accompanying symptoms. Only in one case masturbation was observed.

Of 107 women investigated for frequency of micturition and dysuria, 21 had gonorrhoea, 14 chlamydial urethritis, eight an Escherichia coli urinary tract infection, 18 candidosis, 12 trichomoniasis, and four asymptomatic genital herpes. No organisms were isolated from 30 patients. Eighty nine women referred themselves and 18 were referred by the family practitioner. These findings suggest that Chlamydia trachomatis is frequently associated with the urethral syndrome among patients attending sexually transmitted disease clinics.

Mycobacterium abscessus complex is one of the most important groups of non-tuberculosis mycobacteria, which can cause infection in several organs of the human body. In this study, we report a rare cause of urinary tract infection which was presented with the chief complaint of hematuria and dysuria. The patient was treated by a clarithromycin based approach and the result of the culture and polymerase chain reaction were negative after 3 months of treatment. Informed consent was taken from the patient for publishing the case.

Zoon's balanitis, is typically found in older, uncircumcised males and can be asymptomatic, pruritic, or cause dysuria. The typical appearance is erythematous, discrete, moist plaques with a "cayenne pepper" speckled appearance and an orange hue on the glans penis and sometimes prepuce, which may display "kissing lesions" on areas that are in direct contact with the lesions.These may eventually erode and leave a "rusty stain". Histologically, these have a dense lichenoid infiltrate in the upper and mid dermis with abundant plasma cells.

Neither eosinophilic cystitis nor nephrogenic adenoma is often diagnosed in children, with few pediatric cases being reported in the literature. Although these maladies share the same predisposing conditions, namely, chronic irritation or injury to the urothelium and lower urinary tract and symptoms such as dysuria, hematuria, and urinary frequency, their concomitance is exceptional. Herein, we report the case of an 8-year-old boy with a previous history of bladder surgery presenting histologically diagnosed eosinophilic cystitis and nephrogenic adenoma.

An 11-year-old male dog with dysuria-stranguria, progressing to anuria, had a multilobulated, firm mass in the perineal area, embedded in the fibroconnective adipose tissue of the pelvic cavity. The mass, which was resected surgically, was unencapsulated and composed of multiple islands of hyaline cartilage, interspersed with mature adipose tissue, and myxoid and fibrous tissues. Foci of chondroid metaplasia were present. Histological and immunohistochemical examination confirmed the mesenchymal origin of the tumour. A diagnosis of intra-pelvic chondrolipoma was made.

The prostate gland is not often the target of imaging in children but may be imaged during investigation of symptoms related to the lower genitourinary tract such as hematuria, urinary retention, dysuria, and incontinence or during an evaluation for suspected congenital anomalies. Ultrasound and voiding cystourethrography are useful for initial evaluation of congenital and neoplastic disorders of the prostate. MR imaging and CT are useful in delineating more detailed anatomy before surgical planning and in determining the organ of origin in a patient who has a large pelvic mass.

We report a case of a bladder hemangioma in a 30-year-old woman. She was admitted to our department with the chief complaints of gross hematuria and dysuria. Cystoscopy revealed a red sessiled tumor 5 mm in diameter on the right wall of the bladder. Transurethral resection of bladder tumor was performed on September 13, 2000. The specimen was pathologically diagnosed as cavenous hemangioma of the urinary bladder. Including our case, 85 cases of hemangioma of the bladder are reviewed in the Japanese literature.

A misdiagnosis of Kawasaki disease was made initially for two patients with Reiter syndrome. The first patient had conjunctivitis, urethritis, arthritis, and the characteristic skin finding of keratoderma blennorrhagicum. The situation of the usual bladder, prostate, membranous urethra channel, can vary, according to the morphology of the perineum which can be overstretched. A case of a young man with a T10 complete upper motor neurone lesion is presented. The normal anterior angulation at the prostate and membranous urethra junction was reduced anteriorly and pushed backwards, thus causing an added indirect factor of dysuria. The mechanism is discussed in comparison with other such late, but often overlooked consequences of alterations of the pelvic floor during micturition.
