PURPOSE: Diabetic macular edema (DME) is a major cause of visual impairment in patients with diabetic retinopathy. While intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) monotherapy has been considered standard of care, many patients have suboptimal treatment responses.
