Histochemical features of two different parts of the porcine Fallopian tube have been studied, with special reference to cyclic changes in the distribution of glycogen particles. We report a case of fallopian tube carcinoma, successfully diagnosed preoperatively. The patient was a 64-year-old woman. Transvaginal sonography and computed tomography showed a cystic and solid tumor on the left side of the uterus, suggesting ovarian cancer. The tumor was, however, suspected to be a fallopian tube carcinoma on MR imaging. MR images showed a solid mass surrounded by a tube-shaped cystic part. At surgery, a solid and cystic tumor was found in the left fallopian tube. MR imaging may be useful to assist in the diagnosis of fallopian tube carcinoma.

Ten infertile women were diagnosed as having bilateral or unilateral proximal tubal occlusion in the presence of minimal to mild endometriosis. They were treated with GnRH analogue for 3 months. The aim was to assess the usefulness of therapy in reversing the tubal block. Diagnosis was based on hysterosalpingography, laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. Isolated torsion of fallopian tube is very uncommon during pregnancy. Predisposing factors for torsion are hydrosalpinx, prior tubal operation, pelvic congestion, ovarian and paraovarian masses and trauma. Although the most important clinical symptom is abdominal pain in lower quadrants, the diagnosis is usually established during the operation performed for acute abdomen and salpingectomy is almost always necessary. Two cases of torsion of fallopian tube during pregnancy, one with hydrosalpinx, the other with paratubal cyst are presented and symptoms and predisposing factors are discussed.

In recent years, falloposcopic, visualization of the tubal lumen has become a topic of great interest. Radiation myelopathy is a severe consequence of radiation to the spinal cord which rarely occurs with standard doses of radiation. This entity commonly results in different degrees of sensory and motor deficits. Diagnosis of radiation myelopathy in women with gynecologic malignancies may increase with the concomitant use of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. This paper reports the effect of this combination therapy in a 60-year-old woman with fallopian tube carcinoma.

From September 1993 through March 1994, 30 cases of refractory carcinoma of the ovary and Fallopian tube were treated with Taxol. Complete response was seen in 4 and partial response in 8 cases with a response rate of 40%. The average length of remission was 5 months in CR and 3.9 months in PR. The major toxic side effect was decrease in total white cell count and in neutrophil count. Apart from flushing of face during Taxol infusion in 6 patients, no other allergic reaction was observed. Two typical adenocarcinomas of the fallopian tube in a thirty two and thirty-eight-year-old patients are presented. Clinically both tumors were discovered after episodes of vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain and leukorrhen. Both patients were treated by total hysterectomy including removal of the ovaries and the fallopian tubes. One of the patients remains well after two and a half years postoperatively without signs and symptoms of tumor up to date. Microscopically the tumors were classified as poorly differentiated adenocarcinomas. A brief review of the pertinent literature, was done.

The two groups had a similar distribution of stage I and II; in the more advanced stages chemotherapy was the predominant method of treatment.

We describe 14 cases of pseudocarcinomatous changes in the fallopian tube characterized by florid epithelial hyperplasia and in half the cases mesothelial hyperplasia and associated with chronic salpingitis. The patients' ages ranged from 17 to 40 years. Seven had clinical evidence of pelvic inflammatory disease. Nuclear DNA content and p53 immunoreactivity were determined in 53 cases of primary fallopian tube cancer (PFTC). All tumors showed a distinctly aneuploid DNA distribution pattern, whereas p53 immunoreactivity was observed in 51% of the cases. If the patients were divided into two groups according to survival time, p53 immunoreactivity was present in 40% of the tumors from patients surviving for more than 8 years and in 65% of tumors from patients who died within 2 years.
