Cooperative Poly(ethylene glycol) Dehydration and Ion-Dependent Electrostatic Interactions Drive Thermally Irreversible Polyion Complex Flower Micelle Hydrogels.

Thermoresponsive hydrogels based on flower-micelle assemblies that undergo gelation upon heating are attractive as injectable soft materials. We previously reported that Redox Injectable Gels (RIGs), formed from polyion complex (PIC) flower micelles, exhibit unusually high stiffness together with thermally irreversible gelation. Here, we investigate the physicochemical basis of this distinctive behavior by systematically examining the effects of phosphate buffer concentration and salt species on gelation dynamics, micellar structure, and segmental mobility. Rheological analyses showed that gel

BrANL2 negatively regulates the anthocyanin biosynthesis by depressing BrPAL, BrC4H, and Br4CL in purple flowering Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa var. parachinensis).

A new deep‑purple flowering Chinese cabbage germplasm (22M‑699) was developed, and BrANL2 was identified as a negative regulator of anthocyanin biosynthesis that directly represses BrPAL, BrC4H, and Br4CL, providing a target for purple-color breeding in Brassica crops. Purple flowering Chinese cabbage is highly valued in the market for its vibrant color and potential health benefits, especially the rich anthocyanin contents. Previously, we introduced the purple trait from mustard (Brassica juncea) into heading Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa var. pekinensis) via distant hybridization, which res

Flower- and Water-Dwelling Yeasts Influence Nectar-Seeking and Oviposition Behavior in the Asian Tiger Mosquito with Distinct Volatile Organic Compound Profiles.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by flowers and aquatic microorganisms influence mosquito behavior, but the role of water- and nectar-dwelling yeasts remains underexplored. In Aedes albopictus, we characterized yeast communities from visited and non-visited flowers, and from colonized and non-colonized breeding-site waters in urban community gardens. Mint flowers were preferentially visited, and the yeasts Metschnikowia reukaufii and Aureobasidium pullulans, present at higher densities in this plant, strongly attracted adult males and females, respectively. GC-MS analysis showed that …

Modulation of freeze-thaw stability of emulsified sausage gels by Abelmoschus manihot (L.) medicus flower: Multi-scale structural and metabolomic evidence.

Repeated freeze-thaw cycles can impair the structural and physicochemical stability of myofibrillar protein-based emulsified gel systems. This study evaluated the cryoprotective effects of Abelmoschus manihot (L.) Medicus flower (AMF; 0%, 1%, 2%, and 4%, w/w) in emulsified sausage gels subjected to six freeze-thaw cycles. Compared with the control, AMF-treated samples showed lower thawing and cooking losses and improved emulsion stability. After six freeze-thaw cycles, cooking loss was reduced by 8.55%, 6.47%, and 0.93% in the AMF-1%, AMF-2%, and AMF-4% groups, respectively, compared with AMF-

Sodium Hydrosulfide (NaHS) Triggers Jasmonate and Reactive Oxygen Species to Boost Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Growth, Flowering, and Grain Yield.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) functions as a pivotal gaseous signaling molecule in plants, yet its role in promoting crop yield remains elusive. Here, we demonstrate that sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS) application, a donor of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), significantly accelerates growth, promotes flowering, and enhances grain yield in rice (Oryza sativa L.). Optimal NaHS treatment increased plant height, root length, and biomass accumulation, concomitant with elevated sucrose, starch, chlorophyll contents, and nitrate reductase activity. Integrated transcriptomic and proteomic analyses revealed that NaHS repr

Label-free electrochemical split-aptamer aptasensor with signal amplification via flower-like gold nanostructures for ultrasensitive detection of kanamycin in water.

Residual kanamycin (Kana) in water bodies threatens ecological safety and human health, driving demand for straightforward and sensitive detection tools. In this work, we present a label-free electrochemical sandwich aptasensor that achieves ultrasensitive Kana detection by synergizing split-aptamer recognition with signal amplification through flower-like gold nanostructures (AuNFs). The split aptamer fragments (SPA1/SPA2) remain separate in the absence of target, minimizing background from nonspecific folding. Upon Kana introduction, a SPA1-Kana-SPA2 ternary complex assembles on the AuNF-mod

Hydrogen-rich water alleviates cadmium stress in Chinese flowering cabbage by enhancing antioxidant capacity, improving photosynthesis, and reducing cadmium uptake.

Hydrogen-Rich Water (HRW) is a new environmentally friendly plant growth regulator that can effectively mitigate various abiotic stresses in plants. This study demonstrated that HRW significantly alleviated cadmium (Cd) stress in Chinese flowering cabbage. Compared to Cd treatment alone, Cd+HRW greatly enhanced the growth parameters and photosynthetic characteristics of the Chinese flowering cabbage. Under Cd+HRW stress, HRW notably reduced the malondialdehyde (MDA) content in shoots. Concurrently, HRW increased the activity of antioxidant enzymes, including peroxidase (POD), superoxide dismut

Genome-wide analysis of the mango YUCCA family and overexpression of MiYUCCA10A/B confers early flowering and stress tolerance in transgenic Arabidopsis and tomato.

Auxin is a fundamental phytohormone that orchestrates developmental processes in plants. Flavin monooxygenase (YUCCA) serves as the rate-limiting enzyme in the indole-3-pyruvic acid pathway (IPA) pathway, and its main function is to convert IPA into IAA. In this study, 12 members of the MiYUCCA gene family were mined and identified from the genomic data of mango (Mangifera indica). Phylogenetic tree analysis classified mango YUCCA into five categories. Cis-elements analysis of the promoter indicated that the promoter region contained a large number of hormone response elements and abiotic elem

Analyses of gene families, allelic variation and VIGS reveal that GheIF3M.2 is significantly associated with dwarfism and the absence of flower buds in upland cotton.

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 (eIF3), the largest eukaryotic initiation factor, regulates mRNA translation initiation. While eIF3 has been extensively studied in various plant species, research on eIF3 in upland cotton remains limited. A total of 60 GheIF3s were identified using a bioinformatics approach, and comprehensive characteristic analysis was conducted in upland cotton. The results revealed that the different subunits of the GheIF3s were strongly conserved in both structural and evolutionary relationships. RNA-seq and qRT‒PCR results revealed that the expression levels of

Salivary protein FoDESP8 serving as an effector to restrain plant resistance causing exacerbated damage by western flower thrips under elevated CO2.

Salivary proteins of herbivorous insects are essential for their infestation in host plants. While previous studies have mainly focused on confirming the functions of salivary proteins, there is limited understanding of how environmental factors affect plant-herbivorous insect interactions through salivary proteins. Therefore, this study utilized proteomic analysis to identify salivary proteins that were expressed differently in western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis) under ambient CO2 (400 ppm; i.e., aCO2) and elevated CO2 (800 ppm; i.e., eCO2) to pinpoint the key salivary active p
