[The proximal migration of a double-J catheter. A review of the predisposing factors. Apropos a case].

Case report of a patient bearer of a double-J ureteral catheter due to ureteral lithiasis. After persistent renoureteral pain and fever, the proximal migration of the catheter is confirmed radiologically. The predisposing factors for this complication, described in the literature, are reviewed.

The cardiac migration of a Kirschner wire. A case report.

In June of 1995, a 48-year-old woman was admitted to an outlying hospital with a history of stomach pain several weeks in duration. A few years before, she had undergone orthopedic surgery because of bilateral coxarthrosis. Total endoprosthesis had been implanted at both hips. Chest radiography showed a metal foreign body (apparently a Kirschner wire) in the heart, whereas right-hip radiography showed no Kirschner wire. Echocardiography indicated that the wire was in the right ventricle. The patient underwent open-heart surgery, and the 5-cm-long Kirschner wire was removed from the right ventr

[Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia and vena cava filter. Difficulties of treatment].

The authors report two cases of thrombosis occurring after partial interruption of the inferior vena cava. They presented as collapse and anuria with fatal outcome. Heparin induced thrombocytopenia was present in two cases and distal migration of filter in one case. Thrombo-embolic complications can follow heparin induced thrombocytopenia and justify first treatment with low molecular weight heparin and/or early treatment with oral anti-coagulant. Thrombosis, recurrent embolism or thrombosis of renal vena may occur after vena cava filter. Renal vena thrombosis especially follow filter movement

Periocular migration of hard contact lenses.

Six cases are presented in which hard contact lenses have migrated into the periocular soft tissues, four into the eyelid, one into the orbit and one which spontaneously reappeared on the cornea 12 years after the patient had last worn contact lenses. Some possible mechanisms of this phenomenon and a review of the literature are presented.

An unintended path: Foley catheter-induced biliary obstruction following gastrostomy tube replacement - A case report.

Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tubes are widely used for long-term enteral access. Accidental dislodgement is a relatively common occurrence, and in many settings a Foley catheter is inserted as a temporary measure to preserve tract patency until definitive replacement can be performed. Although this practice is routinely employed, Foley catheters lack an external flange and are therefore susceptible to distal migration and associated complications. We describe a case of a 97-year-old woman with advanced dementia who presented to the emergency department with recurrent vomiting and

Case Report: Total intragastric mesh migration six years after diaphragmatic rupture and hiatal hernia surgery.

BACKGROUND: Mesh implementation to repair the hiatal space is already justified. Nevertheless, the use of this procedure is debated in regard of complications that may occur. Mesh erosion and migration are considered the most serious complications of mesh repairs. CASE PRESENTATION: It has not yet been well described in the literature. We describe a case of mesh erosion of stomach, many years later after a prosthetic repair of a diaphragmatic rupture associated to hiatal hernia, is presented here because of its rarity. CONCLUSION: Few explanations have been put forward to explain this incide

Implant Migration After Anterior Cervical Spine Surgery: A Systematic Literature Review.

STUDY DESIGN: Systematic literature review. OBJECTIVE: To summarize the demographics, diagnosis, clinical course, management, and outcomes for implant migration after anterior cervical spine surgery. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Implant migration following anterior cervical spine surgery is a rare event that may predispose patients to high morbidity due to the proximity of cervical implants to critical structures. Due to the infrequency of this complication, most of the literature on this topic is described in case reports or series. METHODS: We screened the PubMed database for relevant publ

Gastric outlet and duodenal bulb obstruction: A rare complication due to migrated gastrostomy tube.

Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG), became a common option for extended enteral nutritional support. Placing a PEG tube is generally considered as a safe procedure, Nevertheless, mild to severe complications may occur. A 73-year-old female presented to our outpatient clinic with nausea, vomiting and weight loss. She had a PEG tube placed due to inadequate oral intake secondary to nasopharyngeal malignancy. She was fed via PEG tube since then. It was renewed six months ago. Gastroscopy revealed migrated internal bumper of the tube passing through anterior wall of gastric corpus to duoden

Anal Extrusion of Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt Distal Catheter: A Case Report and Literature Review.

BACKGROUND: The standard treatment for hydrocephalus is often the placement of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS), especially in patients with myelomeningocele (MMC). This case report aimed to enrich the existing knowledge by presenting a rare instance of asymptomatic anal extrusion of a VPS catheter in an infant, along with a review of the relevant literature. CASE PRESENTATION: A 2-month-old male infant with myelomeningocele (MMC) and hydrocephalus presented with asymptomatic anal extrusion of his ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) catheter, discovered by his mother. Emergency imaging reveale

Acute pancreatitis secondary to migration and impaction of an intragastric balloon.

Obesity represents a significant global health problem, and reducing its alarmingly high incidence is an urgent challenge. The intragastric balloon is a safe and effective device for weight loss; therefore, it is widely used. Although the frequency of serious complications resulting from its use is low, it is not exempt from them. We would like to present a case of a severe but infrequent complication secondary to this device, with the aim of highlighting the most appropriate procedure in such cases and emphasizing the importance of awareness regarding it.

Importance of local and systemic factors in preventing implant displacement in the mandibular body: a scoping review of existing literature.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this research was to analyse the current literature on displaced dental implants in the mandibular body, including local and systemic variables related to their cause, and to identify the most frequent location. METHODS: The study conducted a search of three databases (Pubmed, Scopus, and Web of Science) using specific index terms such as 'dental implant', 'displacement', 'dislocation', 'displaced', and 'mandible'. The analysis focused on the direction of displacement and the characteristics of the bone tissue (bone quality, density, and quantity) in cases where dental

Anesthetic Management of Intracardiac Migration of Medical Devices.

The use of endovascular, percutaneous interventions to treat cardiac, arterial, and venous pathologies is becoming increasingly common in medical practice. While endovascular device placement typically carries a low risk, device migration remains a persistent problem with these procedures for which anesthesia providers must have a high index of suspicion. Anesthesia providers should be aware of the wide range of indications for such devices, potential migration locations, and hemodynamic consequences of both the inciting pathology and device migration so they can safely care for patients in th
