For the last several decades, Alzheimer's disease (AD) has been widely regarded as a late life event, but is now being redefined as a chronic condition that develops over decades. Concurrently, a preponderance of evidence emerging from basic and clinical research in diverse fields such as cardiovascular, endocrine, and mental health has suggested that the environmental component of clinical AD is not only multifactorial in populations and in individuals, but is also modifiable across the life-course, from conception until death. Re-conceptualizing the environmental component of AD to account f

RESULTS: Fifty-six studies met eligibility criteria and were included in the analysis. Seven studies examined patients' views after having colonoscopy. Forty-seven studies addressed patient-reported barriers to an anticipated primary colonoscopy. Most patients perceived the laxative bowel preparation to b

This paper describes a pilot initiative to incorporate lymphatic filariasis (LF) elimination and urinary schistosomiasis (SH) control into a mature onchocerciasis control program based on community-directed ivermectin treatment in central Nigeria. In the same districts having onchocerciasis we found LF (as determined by blood antigen testing in adult males) in 90% of 149 villages with a mean prevalence of 22.4% (range 0-67%). Similarly, SH, as determined by dipstick reagent testing for blood in urine from school children, was found in 91% of 176 villages with a mean orevalence in school age ch

Multidimensional strategies involving interpersonal interaction, strategic alliances and targeted use of the media have been shown experimentally to be the most effective behavioral change programs. Health providers need to communicate with schools and community groups, as well as work with product manufacturers and consumer and health organizations. Together these groups can collaborate with the media to communicate accurate information and guidance to the public. Planning effective public health and behavioral change campaigns involves diagnosis and identification of the target behavior. The

Despite increasing expenditures on prevention, government survey after survey indicates that marijuana use--which comprises 90% of illicit drug use--has not been eradicated among teenagers. Today's adolescents have been exposed to the largest dose of prevention in our history. After three decades of such efforts, one must ask why young people continue to use marijuana, and why drug education has failed to bring about a marijuana-free teenage America. Drug education falls short because it is based on a "no-use" premise, scare tactics and top-down teaching. Such programs do not educate, and may

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) remains the leading infectious cause of death from a single pathogen, disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries. Sudan's TB burden has been compounded by prolonged armed conflict and deteriorating health infrastructure, yet no published study has assessed TB-related knowledge, attitudes, and self-reported practices (KAP) among Sudanese medical students. This study assessed TB-related KAP among medical students at the University of Khartoum and explored sociodemographic predictors of KAP outcomes.
METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted

Colorectal cancer is a major public health concern worldwide, and early detection through screening significantly reduces mortality. Primary care physicians (PCPs) play a crucial role in recommending and facilitating colorectal cancer screening. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of PCPs regarding colorectal cancer screening and referral patterns in Saudi Arabia. A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar following PRISMA guidelines. Studies assessing PCP knowledge, attitudes, or practice

AIMS: To explore General Practitioner (GP) knowledge and experience of sepsis and their attitudes toward the implementation of Early Warning Score (EWS) tools in general practice. Early Warning Scores are clinical scoring systems that combine vital signs to detect early signs of patient deterioration and prompt timely medical intervention. As General Practitioners (GP) are usually the first point of contact for unwell patients, the use of EWSs in General Practice requires exploration.
METHODS: A qualitative study design based on the Theoretical Domains Framework using semi-structured intervie
