Subclavian access is commonly used in the intensive care unit (ICU) for central venous catheterization. CASE PRESENTATION: A 38-year-old man was brought in by ambulance as a trauma activation after sustaining a self-inflicted stab wound in the left upper quadrant with a kitchen knife. His primary survey was unremarkable and his vital signs were normal. Secondary survey revealed a 2 cm transverse stab wound inferior and medial to the left nipple. Extended focused assessment with sonography for trauma (FAST) did not show intra-abdominal or pericardial fluid and chest X-ray did not show a definite pneumothorax or hemothorax.

A 66-year-old male patient arrived at the emergency room with a crush injury to his chest. We report a case of delayed diaphragmatic injury caused by lower rib fractures. A 56-year-old male was referred to our hospital due to the fractures of right lower ribs. OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to determine the difference in force required to puncture simulated pleura comparing Kelly clamps to fine artery forceps. The treatment of symptomatic traumatic pneumothorax and haemothorax involves puncture of the parietal pleura to allow decompression. The management of occult and retained haemothorax is challenging for all involved in the care of polytrauma patients in terms of diagnosis and treatment. The focus of decision making is preventing sequelae such as pleural empyema and avoiding a trapped lung. An interdisciplinary task force of the German Society for Thoracic Surgery (DGT) and the German Trauma Society (DGU) on thoracic trauma offers recommendations for post-trauma care of patients with occult and/or retained haemothorax, as based on a comprehensive literature review.

Unilateral recurrent pleural effusions are commonly encountered in critical care practice. Relevant clinical history, physical examination, radiology, and diagnostic thoracentesis usually identify the cause of pleural effusion in most cases. Thoracoscopy or video-assisted thoracic surgery may be required in selective cases. We report a case of 32-year-old female with recurrent unilateral hemorrhagic pleural effusion that was the presenting feature of thoracic endometriosis syndrome.
