A basic protocol is given for animal maintenance and surgery in studies of hindlimb regeneration in larval Xenopus laevis Unlike urodele limbs, those of larval frogs typically show much more variation in the extent of regeneration after amputation. Such variation can be reduced by optimizing the conditions of larval maintenance to regulate the rates of growth and development, by selecting only larvae with normal rates of growth and morphological development for experimental use, and by attention to precision and consistency in the proximo-distal level of surgical amputation.

Long ascending propriospinal neurons (LAPNs) are a subset of spinal interneurons that provide direct connectivity between distant spinal segments. Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) caused a large outbreak in the summer and fall of 2014 in the United States. It causes serious respiratory disease, but causation of associated paralysis is controversial, because the virus is not routinely identified in cerebrospinal fluid. A case of unilateral hindlimb adactyly is described in a 3-month-old female Pointer dog. Clinical and radiographic findings are described. Adactyly or transverse hemimelia is a rare condition in most animal species. In dogs, this condition has been reported only three times as a deformity of the forelimb. To the authors' knowledge, the congenital pelvic limb deformity described here is the first case documented in a dog.

A 19-year-old Thoroughbred gelding presented with sudden onset, non-weight bearing lameness in the right hindlimb. Radiography confirmed distal luxation of the patella, which was replaced into its normal anatomical location under general anaesthesia. There were no pathological sequelae noted on follow-up examination 9 months after the initial injury. To our knowledge, this is a rare manifestation of patellar luxation, only reported once previously in the equine literature.
