The quality of organ preservation is of major importance in minimizing the incidence of primary graft nonfunction and organ rejection. We have recently shown that intramuscular infusion of hypertonic saline, causing pain lasting ~60min, increases muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA) in one group of subjects, yet decreases it in another.
