By mouse bioassay, Clostridium botulinum toxin in both the suspected food samples was detected and identified as type B toxin. In 63 herds the cause was confirmed as porcine epidemic diarrhoea virus by electron microscopy, immunoelectron microscopy, pcr and serology.
