Endocrine studies were made on 4 women with ovarian Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors of varying degrees of differentiation. Clinically, all 4 patients showed evidence of increased androgen production, manifested by either hirsutism or virilization. The calculated ratios of steroid hormones between the affected ovarian venous values and peripheral values for testosterone (T), androstenedione (A), and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) in 3 patients, were 1.4-18.6, 4.2-24.4, and 3.7-10.0, respectively. The paper presents the data on marked dysfunction of hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal system in patients with esophageal and gastric cancer. Patients revealed lowered levels of 11-hydroxycorticosteroids in blood plasma and 17-corticosteroids and 17-glucocorticosteroids in diurnal urine. It was matched by an elevated threshold of hypothalamic sensitivity to inhibition by glucocorticosteroids. Twelve women with congenital adrenal hyperplasia are reported. Initial diagnoses were made at ages ranging from 12 to 32, with epiphyseal fusion complete in all patients. During 6 to 10 years of corticosteroid therapy there occurred substantial reduction of hypertrichosis, disappearance of temporal recession, and decrease in eroticism. In 11 patients menstrual bleeding occurred within 4 months. Urinary excretion of total gonadotropins remained unchanged; total estrogens decreased slightly.
