Low-grade oncocytic tumor of the kidney-a clinical, pathological, and next generation sequencing-based study of 20 tumors.

Low-grade oncocytic tumor (LOT) of the kidney is a recently recognized renal neoplasm with distinctive morphologic, immunophenotypic, and molecular features that distinguish it from other eosinophilic tumors such as oncocytoma and chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (chRCC). This study presents a comprehensive analysis of 20 LOTs from 19 patients, integrating clinicopathological, immunohistochemical, and genetic data. LOTs typically appeared as small, unilateral, well-circumscribed tumors with a tan-brown cut surface, composed of uniform eosinophilic cells with round nuclei and occasional perinuc

Clinical and Novel Biomarkers in Penile Carcinoma: A Prospective Review.

Penile carcinoma is a rare urological neoplasia in men compared to other more common tumors, such as prostate, kidney, or bladder tumors. However, this neoplasm continues to affect a large number of patients worldwide, with developing countries presenting the highest incidence and mortality rates. Important risk factors such as the human papilloma virus, a factor affecting a large number of patients, have been described; however, few studies have evaluated screening programs in populations at risk for this disease, which severely affects the quality of life of older men. The management of thes

Renal angiomyoadenomatous tumor (RAT): a rare distinct entity with diagnostic challenges-a case report.

BACKGROUND: Renal angiomyoadenomatous tumor (RAT) is a recently described rare renal neoplasm with variations in the presentation, gross, and microscopic findings, and having a benign course and good prognosis. It is characterized microscopically by the admixture of three components-epithelial cells arranged in tubules and nests, angiomyomatous stroma, and capillary-sized interconnecting vascular channels in close association with the epithelial cell clusters. Microscopically, these tumors can be confused with clear cell carcinoma, papillary carcinoma, mixed epithelial and stromal tumors, and

Hepatocellular carcinoma metastatic to the oral mucosa: report of a case with multiple gingival localizations.

BACKGROUND: Metastases to the oral mucosa are rare, representing less than 1% of the tumors at this site. Most of these metastatic neoplasms originate in the lungs, kidneys, and liver. METHODS: The clinicopathologic features of an occult hepatocellular carcinoma, metastatic to the oral mucosa, are reported. The patient, a 70-year-old male, complained of 3 distinct polypoid, reddish lesions of the antero-inferior alveolar crest and both the right and left postero-superior attached gingiva, without bone involvement. The lesions were excised, with the clinical diagnosis of multiple vascular tumo

Solid Pseudopapillary Neoplasm of the Pancreas Misdiagnosed as Ovarian Torsion in the Second Trimester of Pregnancy.

Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm (SPN) of the pancreas is a low-grade malignant tumor affecting young women. Presentation during pregnancy is extremely rare and poses unique diagnostic and management challenges. We present a case of a 23-year-old primigravida at 25 weeks of gestation with recurrent epigastric pain and vomiting. Initial imaging suggested an adnexal mass, raising concerns about ovarian torsion. However, further assessment with MRI revealed a large heterogeneous mass anterior to the left kidney and near the pancreas. Diagnostic laparotomy confirmed a 15 cm mesenteric mass that was

Light-Chain Myeloma Presented as Osseus Tumors: A Case Report.

Light-chain multiple myeloma (LCMM) is a rare subtype of plasma cell neoplasm, usually linked to kidney involvement and lytic bone lesions. However, case presents as osseus tumors are very uncommon. A 63-year-old male patient complained of persistent rib pain. Computed tomographic imaging showed an isolated bone tumor in the eighth rib. Further positron emission tomography-computed tomographic scan revealed multiple lytic bone lesions in other areas. Biopsy of the rib lesion confirmed the presence of plasma cells producing kappa light chains. The patient received 4 cycles of daratumumab, borte

B-cell small lymphocytic lymphoma in a free-ranging South American fur seal (Arctocephalus australis).

Lymphomas are malignant neoplasms of the hematopoietic system arising from lymphocytes with highly variable biologic behavior. B-cell small lymphocytic lymphoma (B-SLL) is a non-Hodgkin lymphoma infrequently described in domestic and wild animals. The present study describes a case of B-SLL in a free-ranging adult male Arctocephalus australis in Brazil. The main necropsy findings included poor body condition, generalized lymphadenomegaly, severe and diffuse splenomegaly, and multiple, white to yellow nodules in the kidneys and small intestine. Histologically, these organs were partially or tot

Axitinib as a third or further line of treatment in renal cancer: a single institution experience.

BACKGROUND: Kidney cancer is a lethal neoplasm that affects several thousands of people every year. Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common histologic type. Recent developments in the therapeutic approach include antiangiogenic targeted approaches and Immunotherapy. Thus, the therapeutic algorithm of RCC patients and the survival outcomes have changed dramatically. METHODS: Herein we present a retrospective study of the patients treated in our Department with an antiangiogenic agent -Axitinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor- as a third or further line treatment. Statistical analysis was pe

A Primary Adrenal Epithelioid Angiomyolipoma (PEComa) in a Patient with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex: Report of a Case and Review of the Literature.

Epithelioid angiomyolipomas (EAMLs) are mesenchymal tumors that are part of the family of the perivascular epithelioid cell neoplasms (PEComas). These tumors portray a potential aggressive behavior with metastatic lesions found in around 30% of reported cases. EAMLs might present sporadically or in association with the tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). They typically involve the kidneys, liver, and lungs. It is extremely rare for these tumors to arise from other organs. The present report describes an unusual case of an adult patient with a history of TSC who developed EAML of the adrenal glan

Oral Manifestation of Lymphomatoid Granulomatosis.

Lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LYG) is a rare B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder driven by Esptein-Barr virus (EBV) that most commonly affects the lungs, although extra pulmonary sites like the central nervous system, skin, liver and kidney can also be involved. It is microscopically characterized by an angiocentric and angiodestructive growth pattern, predominantly composed by small T-cells, although a smaller population of atypical large B-cells is considered the true neoplastic component. Oral cavity involvement of LYG has rarely been described and the diagnosis of this neoplasm is very diff

Solitary fibrous tumor of the kidney: a case report.

Solitary fibrous tumor is a spindle cell neoplasm mostly originating from pleura; however, it has also recently been reported to be extrapleural. A 57-year-old man presented with left lumbal pain. Ultrasonography and computed tomography showed a cystic lesion of 14 × 11 cm with solid areas and septations in middle and lower poles of the left kidney. Radical nephrectomy was performed. Immunohistochemical studies showed strong reactions with CD34 and CD99. A nuclear positivity with Ki-67 was observed in less than 1% of cells. Despite repeated stainings with vimentin, no clear tumor evaluation co

Primary retroperitoneal paraganglioma simulating a pancreatic mass: a case report and review of the literature.

Paragangliomas are extra-adrenal tumors of the autonomic nervous system and may be found within the skull base, neck, chest, and abdomen. When presenting within the abdominal cavity, they may arise as a primary retroperitoneal neoplasm and can mimic vascular malformations or other conditions related to specific retroperitoneal organs such as the pancreas, kidneys, or adrenals. Retroperitoneal paragangliomas are mostly benign with good prognosis; however, they can present with abdominal pain, palpable mass, or hypertensive episodes. Patients should be initially evaluated with catecholamine leve

Tuberous sclerosis: a case report.

Tuberous sclerosis is an inherited neurocutaneous disorder that occurs in approximately 1 in 7,500 live births. It is characterized by benign neoplasms of the skin, heart, kidneys, lungs, central nervous system, and mucosa. Oral lesions are usually fibrous in nature and most commonly occur on the anterior gingivae. Patients may suffer with epilepsy and learning difficulties, which may complicate dental management. When a 10-year-old girl with a history of tuberous sclerosis was brought in for a routine dental check-up, a leafy growth on the anterior gingiva was detected. An excisional biopsy w

Angiotropic large B-cell lymphoma misdiagnosed as urosepsis with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome.

A 53-year-old woman with a history of cervical carcinoma 14 years ago, treated with hysterectomy and radiation therapy, was admitted to the intensive care unit with severe SIRS (systemic inflammatory response syndrome) progressing to shock, multiple organ failure and death within 5 d. Bilateral hydronephrosis diagnosed by sonography and an enlarged left kidney with suspected abscesses verified in a CT-scan suggested the diagnosis of urosepsis. However, multiple microbiological examinations remained sterile. Despite surgical treatment and aggressive intensive care, she died in unresponsive shoc

Late effects after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation.

Late effects are delayed side effects that can occur months or years after bone marrow transplantation. Late effects become a matter of concern as the number of surviving patients and the length of survival time increase. Late effects express themselves as structural or functional impairment of organs or tissues or as neoplastic growth secondary to the primary treatment. Non-neoplastic late effects affect growth and development in children; endocrine and reproductive function; and the function of the eyes, lungs, kidneys, and other organs. Secondary neoplasms are malignant lymphomas and leukem

Production of a monoclonal antibody reactive with human dendritic reticulum cells and its use in the immunohistological analysis of lymphoid tissue.

A murine monoclonal antibody (designated R4/23) which reacts strongly with human dendritic reticulum cells (DRC) is described. Immunoperoxidase staining of tissue cryostat sections revealed that this antibody reacts strongly with DRC in lymphoid follicles (both primary and secondary), and also weakly with marginal zone splenic B cells and with some peripheral follicular mantle B lymphocytes in lymph node cortical follicles. The value of antibody R4/23 is that it allows the distribution of DRC in reactive and neoplastic lymphoid tissue to be clearly delineated. Of particular interest is the fac

Hidden in Plain Sight: Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Masquerading as Multinodular Thyroid Disease.

Metastases to the thyroid gland are uncommon, with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) representing a rare but clinically significant occurrence. RCC may metastasize after a prolonged dormancy and remain clinically silent for years before detection. We present a case of a 61-year-old man who initially presented with hematuria. Imaging at the time revealed RCC confined to the kidney. Several years later, during surveillance imaging for newly diagnosed prostate cancer via prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positron emission tomography (PET), bilateral thyroid nodules were incidentally detected. Middle-Preserving Pancreatectomy for Multicentric Solid Pseudopapillary Neoplasm in a 10-Year-Old Female.

Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm (SPN) is a rare low-grade malignant tumor of the pancreas that occurs predominantly in young females. This tumor is occasionally multicentric, posing a unique surgical conundrum for resection. We present a case of a 10-year-old female with a history of multicystic dysplastic left kidney and persistent urogenital sinus who was diagnosed with biopsy-proven multicentric SPN of the pancreatic head and tail and underwent middle-preserving pancreatectomy. The patient tolerated the surgery very well. Our case is one of the few reported cases of multicentric SPN in a ped

A rare incidence of retroperitoneal Cystic Lymphangioma in a 45-year-old female - A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Cystic lymphangioma is an extremely rare benign vascular neoplasm of mesodermal origin, arising from lymphatic vessels and occurring principally in male children. The retroperitoneum is the rarest site, accounting for <1 % of all types of lymphangioma. The incidence of cystic lymphangioma is unknown due to the scarcity of published data. CASE PRESENTATION: A 45-year-old female presented to our hospital complaining of vague abdominal pain and intermittent episodes of vomiting over four months. Preoperative imaging via ultrasound and Computed Tomography revealed a w
