The pilot study aimed to determine whether the time from injury to surgery influences on postoperative knee biomechanics during walking in patients with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Thirty-two patients with unilateral ACLR (early, 10 patients; delayed, 22 patients) and 30 control subjects participated in this study. All examinations for patients with ACLR were performed preoperatively and at 12 months postoperatively and comprised passive knee joint laxity, knee muscle strength, and knee kinematics and kinetics during walking. At both time points, there were no significant

BACKGROUND: Young patients are 6 times more likely than adults to have a primary anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) graft failure. Biological factors (ie, tunnel osteolysis) may account for up to a third of these failures. Previous evaluations of patient ACL explants indicated significant bone loss within the entheseal regions. However, it remains unknown if the degree of bone loss within the ACL insertion regions, wherein ACL grafts are fixated, exceeds that of the femoral and tibial condylar bone.
HYPOTHESIS: Bone loss in the mineralized matrices of the femoral and tibial ACL entheses is dist

BACKGROUND: Concomitant lateral meniscal (LM) injuries are common in acute anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) ruptures. However, the effect of addressing these injuries with various treatment methods during primary ACL reconstruction (ACLR) on patient-reported outcomes (PROs) is unknown. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare postoperative Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) at 2-, 5-, and 10-years after isolated primary ACLR to primary ACLR with various treatment methods to address concomitant LM injury.
METHODS: This study was based on data from the Swedish Nation

Prior studies have not found significant differences in meniscal parameters between patients with meniscal and ligamentous injury and those without. The purpose of this study was to determine whether such relationships exist. Clinical records and magnetic resonance images of three subject groups were reviewed. Group 1 solely had meniscal tears (medial/lateral), Group 2 had meniscal tears with concurrent ACL tears, and Group 3 had healthy knees. The mean age of subjects included was 35.9 years (range 8.2-72.6). The height, width, diagonal, slope, and cross-sectional area for the anterior and po

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament injury results in altered kinematics and kinetics in the knee and hip joints that persist despite surgical reconstruction and rehabilitation. Abnormal movement patterns and a history of osteoarthritis are risk factors for articular cartilage degeneration in additional joints. The purpose of this study was to determine if hip joint biomechanics early after anterior cruciate ligament injury and reconstruction differ between patients with and without post-traumatic knee osteoarthritis 5years after reconstruction. The study's rationale was that individuals wh

OBJECTIVE: Post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) is a common consequence of traumatic joint injury, with 50% of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture patients developing PTOA within 10-20 years. Currently accepted mouse models of PTOA initiate symptoms using various methods, none of which faithfully mimic clinically-relevant injury conditions. In this study we characterize a novel non-invasive mouse model of PTOA that injures the ACL with a single load of tibial compression overload. We utilize this model to determine the time course of articular cartilage and subchondral bone changes follow

PURPOSE: The use of patient reported outcome measures has gained increasing prominence in reporting surgical outcomes following primary anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Many peer-reviewed journals now require 'end-result' outcomes in excess of 24 months following surgery for publication. As such, there is less focus on early recovery when the greatest rate of change is experienced and when key rehabilitation decisions are made relating to restricted activity and return to sports. We sought to examine the early recovery profile of patients following primary ACLR, determine the

A 48-year-old Chinese woman was hit by a car in a road traffic accident. Local county hospital considered that her right knee was injured, but didn't find any sign of fracture from X-ray imaging. Then the hospital gave diagnosis of soft tissue contusion and the patient started to exercise with burden 21 days after her right lower limb was fixed by plaster slab. Four months later, she had to go back to the county hospital for recheck due to persistent pain on her right knee. Then, the right tibia outer plateau fracture was found. The patient rejected the advice of open reduction and internal fi

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: To study the effectiveness of knee-tendon to bladder artificial reflex arc in dogs.
METHODS: In 6 beagles, the proximal end of the right L5 anterior motor root and the distal end of the right S2 anterior root were anastomosed to build a knee-tendon to bladder reflex, whereas the right L5 posterior sensory root was kept intact. Action potential (AP) curves and electromyograms (EMGs) of the detrusor muscle, the intravesical pressure, horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-labeled neurons, and the passing rates of myelinic nerve fibers were calculated to evaluate its feasibility.

Pseudoaneurysms of the popliteal artery after total knee arthroplasty are rare. Although many possible explanations are proposed in the literature, no intimate mechanism of injury to the artery is previously described. We report on a case of popliteal pseudoaneurysm after a total knee arthroplasty that presented clinically on the second postoperative day. Open vascular surgery with resection of the pseudoaneurysm and end-to-end bypass of contralateral saphena vein graft was successfully performed. At the time of the surgery, a hole was clearly identified on the anterior wall of the popliteal a
