Digital Health in Diabetes Care: A Narrative Review from Monitoring to the Management of Systemic and Neurologic Complications.

Background/Objectives: Despite the recent advances in glucose-lowering therapy, achieving diabetes control remains challenging. With the advancing progress of innovative digital health technologies, management of diabetes is taking advantage from telehealth and telemedicine, which allow for remote assistance, virtual visits, and monitoring of diabetes-related parameters, and facilitate the exchange of documents and reports to support clinical decisions. We aim to provide an overview of the impact of telehealth and digital technologies on the care of people with diabetes, from therapeutic manag

Maximising contributions of midwives in Africa towards achieving MNH targets: Lessons learned.

African midwives are pivotal in enhancing continuity and care coordination throughout healthcare systems. They are a critical human resource in mitigating near misses, morbidities and mortality in Maternal and Neonatal Health (MNH). Thus, achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs) necessitates robust midwifery policies and system strengthening across Africa. Given the critical role of midwives, this report reflects on the need for a coordinated regional approach to unify midwifery across the continent as a strategy towards impactful SDG achievements. The reflections are based on insigh

An Approach to Neuroimaging Interpersonal Interactions in Mental Health Interventions.

BACKGROUND: Conventional paradigms in clinical neuroscience tend to be constrained in terms of ecological validity, raising several challenges to studying the mechanisms mediating treatments and outcomes in clinical settings. Addressing these issues requires real-world neuroimaging techniques that are capable of continuously collecting data during free-flowing interpersonal interactions and that allow for experimental designs that are representative of the clinical situations in which they occur. METHODS: In this work, we developed a paradigm that fractionates the major components of human-to

HBV culture and infectious systems.

While an effective vaccine against hepatitis B virus (HBV) has long been available, chronic HBV infection remains a severe global public health concern. Current treatment options have limited effectiveness, and long-term therapy is required to suppress HBV replication; however, complete elimination of the virus is rare. The lack of suitable animal models and infection systems has hindered efforts to unravel the HBV life cycle, particularly the early events in HBV entry, which appear to be highly species- and tissue-specific. Human primary hepatocytes remain the gold standard for HBV replicatio

Approach to the patient with thyroid storm.

Thyroid storm, or thyrotoxic crisis, is a rare but life-threatening hypermetabolic state arising from severe thyrotoxicosis with a high risk of multiorgan failure. It typically occurs in individuals with untreated or poorly controlled hyperthyroidism, most often Graves' disease, though various other disorders may also precipitate it. Common triggers include infection, surgery, trauma, abrupt discontinuation of antithyroid medication, severe emotional or physical stress, and iodine exposure. Clinical manifestations involve hyperthermia, tachyarrhythmia, cardiac and respiratory failure, and hepa

Qualitative Findings From a Survey Measuring Informational Needs and Quality of Life of Women Living With Metastatic Breast Cancer.

BACKGROUND: People living with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) may have different support requirements to those with early stage breast cancer (EBC). These differences can be substantial, particularly as care pathways and information are often designed around the latter. There is limited understanding of how these discrepancies impact patients with MBC. AIMS: In the LIMBER study (Living with Metastatic Breast Cancer), we explored the distinct and unmet needs of people living with MBC. METHODS: In collaboration with people living with MBC and healthcare professionals (HCPs), we developed an on

Physical and mental well-being, risk and protective factors among older lesbians /gay women in the United Kingdom during the initial COVID-19 2020 lockdown.

This article reports on a subset of findings from a recent UK survey of the impact of COVID-19 on older LGBT+ people in the UK. It considers the responses of 149 lesbian/gay women (137 cisgender, 12 trans) to questions relating to physical and mental health and wellbeing. Findings indicate that those women - in couples and singles - who were happy with their living circumstances pre-COVID showed stoicism, adaptability, and determined positivity in response to the pandemic and associated lockdown. Some even reported an improved quality of life, better personal relationships and increased neighb

National surgical, obstetric, anaesthesia and nursing plan, Nigeria.

Recent evidence suggests that strengthening surgical care within existing health systems will strengthen the overall health-care system. However, Nigeria's national strategic health development plan 2018-2022 placed little emphasis on surgical care. To address the gap, we worked with professional societies and other partners to develop the national surgical, obstetric, anaesthesia and nursing plan 2019-2023. The aim was to foster actions to prioritize surgical care for the achievement of universal health coverage. In addition to creating a costed strategy to strengthen surgical care, the plan

Mental health and psychosocial sequelae of fraud victimization: a systematic review.

Fraud victimization is an increasingly prevalent global problem that extends beyond financial loss, and encompasses substantial mental health and psychosocial harm. Deception, emotional manipulation, and perceived betrayal have been linked to anxiety, depression, shame, trust erosion, and reduced quality of life. Despite these effects, the psychological consequences of fraud victimization remain under-recognized within healthcare and victim support systems. This systematic review synthesizes empirical evidence of mental health and psychosocial outcomes among adults following fraud or scam vict

Mediating Role of Social Support and Family Functioning on Quality of Life of Family Caregivers of Individuals With Alcohol Use Disorder.

BACKGROUND: Caring for persons with alcohol use disorder (AUD) significantly affects the quality of life (QoL) of caregivers. According to Lazarus and Folkman's Stress and Coping Model (1984), the severity of alcohol consumption (SAC) is a major stressor for AUD caregivers. These stressors impact well-being, with QoL linked to caregivers' coping resources, especially social support (SS) and family functioning (FF). The study aimed to investigate the mediating roles of SS and FF in the relationship between the SAC and caregivers' QoL. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted

Worldwide Changes in Loneliness Among Older Adults From 1997 to 2025: A Cross-Temporal Meta-Analysis and Systematic Review.

OBJECTIVES: Loneliness is a critical psychosocial factor associated with mental health and wellbeing in later life. Although prior research has documented its prevalence, less is known about how loneliness has changed over time at a global level or how broader societal conditions shape these trends. This study examined long-term changes in loneliness among older adults and their associations with macro-level indicators. METHODS: A systematic search of 10 databases identified 125 studies (N = 107,304) published between 1997 and 2025. Cross-temporal meta-analysis was conducted to assess trends
