A young Caucasian adult presented to the Accident and Emergency department with small bowel obstruction, which necessitated an exploratory laparotomy. Multiple firm nodules were found with biopsies leading to a diagnosis of peritoneal tuberculosis (TB). Retrospectively, the patient was noted to have classical radiological pulmonary TB findings on a chest radiograph 3 months previously, and 2 weeks later had developed bony infiltration, paravertebral abscesses and likely TB skin lesions. This case illustrates an unusual presentation in a patient with minimal risk factors yet widespread extra-pu

A 49-year-old woman who had previously undergone hysterectomy was found to have multiple pulmonary masses and cysts and experienced respiratory failure. Bronchoscopic study revealed an endobronchial mass obstructing the left main bronchus and protruding into the trachea. She was treated with an endoscopic laser to eliminate the airway obstruction. After recovery from the respiratory failure, two-stage thoracotomies were performed at six-month intervals. The endobronchial mass originated from a tumor in the left basal segment. The histologic findings on the cysts and nodules of both lungs were

OBJECTIVES: To determine the features of rheumatoid pulmonary nodules and the factors associated with nodule progression in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
METHODS: Between January 2010 and September 2018, RA patients with at least one chest computed tomography (CT) were included. Two experienced radiologists examined chest CTs. Nodules with changing dimensions on follow-up or at least two nodules with different sizes or cavitary nodules were considered rheumatoid pulmonary nodules. To identify follow-up changes in the nodules, progression was defined as the appearance of any new nodules

BACKGROUND: Identification of small pulmonary nodules is challenging in a limited intrathoracic field during minimally invasive video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), and preoperative localization is required. Various techniques have been reported with some failure and complications. Here, we compare the feasibility and safety between electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopic marking and computed tomography (CT)-guided percutaneous marking using indocyanine green (ICG) and iopamidol.
METHODS: A total of 47 patients with small-sized pulmonary nodules, scheduled to undergo video-assisted t

We report a peculiar case of multifocal micronodular pneumocyte hyperplasia (MMPH) in a 54-year-old woman with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) diagnosed during antituberculous treatment. Findings were initially detected by chest computed tomography (CT) to check for complication of pulmonary tuberculosis. Chest CT demonstrated multiple small nodules with ground-glass opacity, measuring up to 5 mm diameter, presenting in the bilateral lung fields, without cystic change. Because the differentiation from multiple atypical adenomatous hyperplasia (AAH) was necessary, we finally performed a diagno

A 65-year-old male with a history of smoking since 30 years presented with breathlessness, hemoptysis, multiple swellings all over the body, and weakness in September 2010 at our hospital. Clinically, a diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with cutaneous lymphoma or soft tissue tumor was made. Chest X-ray (CXR) and computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a neoplastic lesion in the right lung with secondary cavitation. Biopsy of the cutaneous nodules showed metastatic deposits from squamous cell carcinoma. Metastatic skin cancer is a relatively rare complication of internal

Intraoperative frozen section (FS) diagnosis is a critical step in the management of patients with pulmonary lesions, which provides guidance for surgical resection procedures. Intraoperative FS diagnosis requires a comprehensive approach that integrates clinical information, imaging findings, and histopathological evaluation. Effective communication between pathologists and surgeons is vital for achieving the best practice result. Intraoperative FS diagnosis faces new challenges in the era of new lung cancer screening strategy, changes in histological tumor classification and addition of new

We present a rare case of chronic Pneumocystis jiroveci infection presenting as multiple persistent granulomatous pulmonary nodules over a 12 month period in a patient with follicular lymphoma undergoing treatment with Rituximab, Cyclophosphamide, Vincristine, and Prednisolone chemotherapy. Remarkably during this period the patient remained asymptomatic. This is the first case to combine these atypical histological, radiological, and clinical manifestations of P. jiroveci infection highlighting unusual manifestations of the disease.

A 58-year-old woman presented to a pulmonology clinic for evaluation of bilateral pulmonary nodules. Two years previously, she had presented with atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia. During evaluation for her tachyarrhythmia, transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) revealed a large, homogenous, highly mobile right atrial and ventricular mass. She underwent electrophysiologic ablation, tricuspid valve annular ring replacement, and resection of the mass, which pathology confirmed to be a myxoma. Now, a recent abdomen and pelvis CT study obtained for history of nephrolithiasis incidentally no

Salivary duct carcinoma (SDC) is a high-grade salivary gland cancer with a poor prognosis. Although therapeutic antibodies capable of targeting several proteins expressed in SDC, such as epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), have been developed, the stability of these antigens during recurrence remains unknown. Herein, we report a case of SDC in the submandibular gland wherein EGFR loss was pathologically confirmed after EGFR-targeted therapy. A 53-year-old man with a right submandibular mass underwent primary tumor resection with ipsilate
