Sinonasal extramedullary plasmacytoma is a rare localized plasma cell neoplasm arising outside the bone marrow, most commonly involving the upper aerodigestive tract. It typically presents with unilateral nasal obstruction and epistaxis and may mimic a broad spectrum of benign and malignant sinonasal conditions. Cross-sectional imaging usually demonstrates an enhancing soft-tissue mass with possible bone remodeling or destruction; however, imaging findings are not specific, and histopathological confirmation of monoclonal plasma cell proliferation remains essential. A comprehensive systemic ev

Trichoepithelioma is a rare benign follicular adnexal neoplasm with hair follicle differentiation, most commonly occurring on the face. Malignant transformation is exceptionally uncommon, with fewer than 10 cases reported in the literature, all arising in patients with multiple familial trichoepitheliomas. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of malignant transformation of a giant solitary trichoepithelioma with extensive craniofacial invasion. We report the case of a 52-year-old man who presented with a rapidly progressive ulcerative lesion over the right side of the

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Cholangiocarcinoma is a malignant neoplasm with a difficult diagnosis and unfavorable prognosis that can appear anywhere in the biliary tree. Anatomically, it can be classified as intra- or extrahepatic, the latter being the most common primary malignancy of the biliary tract. Although bone tissue is the third most common target for metastases in general, metastatic lesions from cholangiocarcinomas are uncommon in the head and neck.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 33-year-old female patient undergoing cancer treatment for cholangiocarcinoma was referred to the Oral and Maxil

INTRODUCTION: Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is a rare autosomal recessive disease caused by mutations resulting in defective repair of DNA damage. XP patients have a markedly increased risk of ultraviolet-induced neoplasms and premature aging of sun-exposed tissue. Approximately 25% of XP patients in the United States have neurologic abnormalities including progressive sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL).
OBJECTIVE: To describe the temporal bone histopathology in 2 individuals with XP (XPA and XPD) with neurologic degeneration and to discuss the possible causes of deafness in these patients.

INTRODUCTION: Giant cell tumor (GCT) is an aggressive, but usually benign bone neoplasm most commonly arising in the metaphysis/epiphyses of long bones. While they are categorized as benign tumors, they can be locally aggressive and clinically have metastatic potential. The most common locations of this tumor include the distal femur, proximal tibia, and distal radius. We report a GCT arising in an atypical location and mimicking a breast mass.
CASE PRESENTATION: This case was diagnosed at a large cancer center in Florida. Pertinent clinical findings were obtained from chart review and inter-

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a plasma cell neoplasm that results from clonal expansion of an Ig-secreting terminally differentiated B cell. Advanced MM is characterized by tissue damage that involves bone, kidney, and other organs and is typically associated with recurrent genetic abnormalities. IL-6 signaling via the IL-6 signal transducer GP130 has been implicated as an important driver of MM pathogenesis. Here, we demonstrated that ectopic expression of constitutively active GP130 (L-GP130) in a murine retroviral transduction-transplantation model induces rapid MM development of high penetrance

BACKGROUND: Osteogenic sarcoma (OGS) is a relatively rare, highly malignant neoplasm of bone with a tendency to metastasize to the lung. Resection of pulmonary metastases in selected instances can increase survival and likelihood of a cure. To date, fine needle aspiration (FNA) of OGS had been well characterized in primary sites of bone and soft tissue.
CASES: Four patients with a history of OGS presented with lung nodules suspected to be metastatic disease. All were evaluated initially by radiographically assisted FNA. In all cases FNA showed spindled or osteoblastlike cells. Two cases demon

Plasma cell neoplasm have been classified as multiple myeloma, solitary plasmacytoma and extramedullary plasmacytoma. The solitary plasmacytoma of maxilla is a rare condition. It is a single focus of myelomatous tissue with no dissemination to other parts of the skeleton. This paper presents a case of solitary plasmacytoma in the maxillary bone. Roentgenographic examination revealed a cystic-like osteolytic lesion over the left posterior portion of maxillary bone, invading maxillary sinus. The CT scan showed the tumor mass occupied the left maxillary sinus and lateral wall of the nasal cavity,

INTRODUCTION: Chondrosarcoma is the second most common primary malignant tumor accounting for 20-27% of these. These are malignant cartilaginous tumor found most commonly in the pelvis, followed by the proximal femur. Perivascular epitheloid cell tumor (PEComa) is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm. These tumors all share a distinctive cell type, the perivascular epithelioid cell (which has no known normal tissue counter - part). These are post commonly found in visceral sites such as gastrointestinal and uterus, in retroperitoneum and abdominal pelvic sites, rarely affecting skeletal system.

Phosphaturic mesenchymal tumor (PMT) is a rare neoplasm that secretes fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23) and causes oncogenic osteomalacia. It occurs in adults with equal gender distribution and the most common location is the lower extremities, followed by the head and neck. Besides osteomalacia, the clinical presentation includes bone pain and multiple bone fractures. Microscopic features consist of spindle cells, multinucleated giant cells, and calcifications embedded in a chondromyxoid matrix. Laboratory findings indicate normal calcium and parathyroid levels, hypophosphatemia, and incre

Malignant histiocytosis is a rare neoplasm of the reticuloendothelial system characterized by neoplastic proliferation of tissue histiocytes. We report a case of malignant histiocytosis in a 64-year-old female initially operated on for a mucinous cystadenoma of her liver. Four months after the operation, skin induration on the neck and anterior thoracic wall and systemic lymphadenopathy were noted. Histology and immunohistochemistry of the lymph node and bone marrow specimens showed extensive infiltration with atypical cells, resembling malignant histiocytes (CD45, CD45RO, CD11c, CD68, lysozym

The incidence of distant metastases in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is relatively small in comparison to other malignancies. Distant metastases adversely impact survival and may significantly affect treatment planning. The incidence of distant metastases is influenced by location of the primary tumor, initial T and N stage of the neoplasm, and the presence or absence of regional control above the clavicle. Patients with advanced nodal disease have a high incidence of distant metastases, particularly in the presence of jugular vein invasion or extensive soft tissue disease in the

METHODS: The medical data of 47 patients with refractory bone and soft tissue sarcoma, who received anlotinib from January 2019 to December 2020, were retrospectively collected. The overall response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) were evaluated according to the solid tumor response evaluation version 1.1 standard. The progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and adverse reactions were recorded.
RESULTS: A total of 44 patients, including 13 with osteosarcoma and 31 with soft tissue sarcoma, were enrolled in this study. Among patients with osteosarcoma, no patients ach

Osteochondroma usually arises from the metaphyseal region of growing bones. The occurrence of extraskeletal osteochondroma is rare with very few case reports. Para-articular osteochondroma is a type of extraskeletal osteochondroma. It frequently occurs around the knee, usually at infrapatellar Hoffa's fat pad. It is usually intracapsular but extrasynovial and arises from the capsule and connective tissues due to osteocartilaginous metaplasia. We present a case of 19-years male with anterior knee pain for 3 years, swelling, and deformity of the knee with flexion limitation for one year. Radiogr

This article discusses the most common tumor and tumor-like lesions arising at the shoulder. Osseous tumors of the shoulder rank second in incidence to those at the knee joint and include benign osteochondromas and myeloma or primary malignant lesions, such as osteosarcoma or chondrosarcomas. Soft tissue tumors are overwhelmingly benign, with lipomas predominating, although malignant lesions, such as liposarcomas, can occur. Numerous tumor-like lesions may arise from the joints or bursae, due to either underlying arthropathy and synovitis (eg, rheumatoid arthritis and amyloid) or related to co

CLINICAL ISSUE: Both benign and malignant tumours are encountered in the foot and ankle. Due to their rarity, however, diagnosis is often uncertain. Usual criteria such as tumour size, invasiveness or pain fail to differentiate benign from malignant neoplasias.
STANDARD RADIOLOGICAL METHODS: Plain radiography and-due to the complex foot anatomy-CT are important in the diagnostic evaluation of primary bone tumours. In the case of soft tissue tumours, ultrasonography is used to identify ganglion cysts. Tumour evaluation and staging are then performed using MRI. Nuclear imaging comes into play w

It has been reported that patients with hereditary multiple exostoses (called multiple osteochondromatosis by the World Health Organization) are at increased risk for malignant transformation of osteochondromas to secondary chondrosarcomas. A review of the literature found 14 cases showing transformation of osteochondromas into osteosarcomas; however, Ewing sarcoma has never been reported superimposed on an osteochondroma. This article presents the case of a boy who underwent biopsy of a previously existent osteochondroma for which the pathology report showed cytologic and immunohistochemical

While primary squamous-cell carcinoma of the hand is common, metastasis of a squamous-cell carcinoma to the hand is very rare. It has been reported to arise from carcinoma of the lung and oesophagus and, rarely, from other tumours. We describe a patient with metastatic squamous-cell carcinoma occurring in the first web space of the hand from primary lung cancer, which remained undetected for 30 months after treatment of the metastasis.
